My classroom is a self contained classroom with a variety of disabilities including Autism and Downs syndrome. I have ten students in my room who mainstream or visit regular education classrooms for subjects they do well in. They enjoy their time in their regular classrooms but are unable to spend their full day in regular education due to their disabilities. In my classroom, lessons are shortened to maintain students attention. In addition, activities and assessments are not always traditional paper and pencil tasks but rather hands on or technological activities. My school is very supportive of me and my students and the teachers welcome them in their classrooms each year. The administration is also supportive and regularly visit my room to stop and work with my students and see what projects they are working on. However, funding is not always available to provide for my students in terms of supplies and technology.
