Student-selected reading is a must to build the necessary skills students need for the future; all the while, it layers in a bit of fun and choice in their day, which is a must for middle school students.\r\n\r\nThis donation of high-interest novels allows students to analyze texts in a deeper way. While they read their selected novels, they are asked to document specific \"moves\" the author intentionally makes to connect to the reader. For instance, why did this author use this simile? How does it change the overall tone? How does it bring character to the protagonist? These are questions they answer daily in their reading.\r\n\r\nI thank you so much for your continued contributions to this work. It does not go unnoticed, and in the field of literacy, it is an emergent need. The hallway now features fresh greenery accented by a neon sign. To the left, our new calendar wall showcases daily learning objectives so students always know what we're working on—and if they miss a day, they can quickly see how to catch up. To the right, a motivational quote reminds them to make great choices.\r\n\r\nOur technology continues to enhance learning as well, allowing concerts and student work to be shared with parents and families.
