Puppets, finger plays, scarves oh My! was written in response to a need I saw in my highly structured resource room. This is essentially an autism unit with predominantly non-verbal kindergarteners. \r\nDue to a variety of reasons, music class for my friends needed to be instrument free. We are using them during our lessons to give students more opportunities to explore, create, and learn through hands-on experiences. One specific project has been watching students work together, share ideas, and use the new materials to bring their learning to life. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow as they work.\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were immediately excited and curious. They wanted to explore everything and began asking questions about how we could use the new resources. Their excitement quickly turned into collaboration as they started sharing ideas and helping one another.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building on what we have learned. Students will have opportunities to apply their new skills, work together on the next part of our project, and reflect on what they have discovered. I am especially looking forward to seeing how they take ownership of their learning and use these resources in new and creative ways.\r\n\r\nThank you to our generous donors for investing in our students and giving them resources that make learning more engaging and meaningful.
