We had excellent attendance for our family night which featured 3 bilingual readers from the community reading bilingual books in both English, and their native language. Thanks to other generous donations from UnityPoint and our local Waterloo Schools Foundation, we were able to provide culturally authentic food from local community places as the dinner for our literacy night.\r\n\r\nI started out with a crazy vision to provide every multilingual student at least 2-5 bilingual books. I was discouraged by the cost as my dream kept adding up past dollars I felt I could raise. It was an entire fall of making TikTok videos, posting donation requests on Facebook, and working with my school team to get the word out. \r\n\r\nIn the end, all of you came together on DonorsChoose to raise $4,782! Our school was able to send home over 400 bilingual books with students for the summer! I presented our Multilingual Family Literacy Night to the School Board, with my teammate, Paw Hope. The Waterloo School Board was thrilled to hear about my passion for sharing literacy in multiple languages! I wrote a TedTalk style speech for the school board presentation and am proud of how I represented my school, my students, and my community. I hope you continue to contribute towards those working to educate children in all capacities. \r\n\r\nI could not have done this without the support of the DonorsChoose community.
