During my first years of teaching at my school, I had a classroom set of calculators that we were able to use for about 15 yers. However, this last year, my last calculator gave up the ghost. Our students do have iPads, but many teachers, including myself try to be very intentional about how much time is spent on school technology, as it can lead to learning distractions. Also, for many of my students it is difficult to potential have to transfer from a learning screen and to a calculator app or site to do their calculations.\r\n\r\nThese calculators came in just in time for my classes to use them with our scale size and distance calculations during our Astronomy unit. So students were able to use them extensively during that part of our unit. Of course at different points, we have various needs to have access to calculators, as well as many students choose to use any extra class time to do their math homework.
