They couldn't wait to choose their colors and imagine how their gray clay pieces would be transformed. There was so much excitement as they talked about which colors they wanted to use and how their finished pottery would look after being fired in the kiln.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts of teaching pottery is watching students discover that their artwork changes through the process. They learn that the glaze may look different before it goes into the kiln, and then they get to experience the surprise of seeing their colorful, shiny masterpiece emerge. It feels a little bit like magic!\r\n\r\nWe took our finished pieces home before the summer! We still have some left for this year too! \r\n\r\nThank you for helping bring color back to our art room! The cardboard, boxes, and recyclable materials have become some of their favorite resources in the art room. They love transforming everyday objects into imaginative 3D creations and figuring out how to make their ideas stand up, connect, and work.\r\n\r\nWhen the new materials arrived, my students were eager to get started. They immediately began talking about what they could build and experimenting with different ways to attach their materials. One of my favorite moments was watching students test different construction methods and realize that there isn't always just one \"right\" way to solve a problem. They learned through trial and error—if glue didn't hold, they tried tape or another strategy.\r\n\r\nThese materials provide something especially valuable in today's technology-filled world: a chance to slow down, use their hands, tinker, problem-solve, and create something completely their own. The sculpture center has become a place where students can take creative risks and turn their ideas into 3D masterpieces.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue our 3D construction projects. Students will be designing and building sculptures from cardboard and recycled materials while thinking about structure, balance, shape, and how different materials can be joined together. My students with special needs especially enjoy this material because it is soft, forgiving, and easy to manipulate. It gives them an accessible way to experience success as artists.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to create a new collection of small sculptures and figures. Students will continue exploring how they can change and combine shapes to create recognizable forms and imaginative characters. We are also excited to use Mod Podge to seal our finished sculptures so that their creations can last longer and be enjoyed for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us refill our clay supply after our very unexpected mouse adventure!
