"Students who are loved at home, come to school to learn, and students who aren't, come to school to be loved." I feel this quote clearly represents the student population taught at my school. I have been a 1st grade teacher for the past 3 years and have been transferred to 4th grade due to budget cuts. I am very excited for this new challenge, but realize that just as my placement has changed, so will the needs of my students. I have between 19-21 4th graders in my room at any given time. I have worked hard to create many different spaces for my students to learn, create, and collaborate successfully. I realize however, that 4th graders have different preferences than first graders. While 1st graders enjoyed laying out on the floor to work with classmates, 4th grade bodies are much bigger and would not be able to lay around the classroom due to lack of space. Whether my students are coming into my classroom to learn or be loved, this new furniture will allow comfort and spark creativity.
