The books you helped purchase are being used to help teach a unit on WWII, and civil injustices. Maus teaches the Holocaust, and the dehumanizing process the Jewish people went through. They Called Us Enemy teaches how Japanese American citizens were striped of their rights. Both look at how two separate groups of people lost not only physical, tangible items, like their homes, but also, in many cases, their lives. They are ultimately, stories of perseverance. \r\nWhen we read in my class, we out loud and together. This helps my students who are lower level, are English Learners, and those who don't care to read. We stop and recap, ask questions, and check for understanding.
