For many of them, this is their first experience with classic sci-fi, and it's sparking curiosity, imagination, and critical thinking in powerful new ways. As we journey with the Time Traveller, students are learning to question the world around them, consider how society changes over time, and make connections between literature, technology, and their own lives.\r\n\r\nScience fiction gives my students space to dream bigger to wonder \"What if?\" and to envision futures shaped by their choices. It encourages reluctant readers with its fast-paced plot and intriguing ideas, while challenging advanced readers to think deeply about symbolism, theme, and social commentary. Discussions have become more vibrant, and students are eager to share their predictions, questions, and insights.\r\n\r\nYour support helps create a classroom where reading isn't just an assignment, it's an adventure. By providing resources that bring The Time Machine and the genre of science fiction to life, you're helping students develop stronger literacy skills, greater confidence, and a lifelong love for reading and exploring new ideas. Teaching in a low-income area comes with its challenges, but your generosity has impacted our school community and helped relieve stress from students that shouldn't be stressed by supplies in class and basic hygiene products.\r\nAs you can see in the images uploaded with this letter, my students utilized crayons, colored pencils and markers to create mini-posters (that you provided as well) which helped serve as a visual aid for giving their first speech. My students were so nervous to start speaking in front of their peers but the mini-posters and creativity they were able to put into them made all the difference.\r\nFinally, I've already seen the way my hygiene station is depended on my our kids! I've switched from a drawer of products to leaving them out in the open on a shelf for my students. I've noticed the way some of my students have gotten so comfortable and utilize these products as they've become readily available to them now. Whether it's dropping by in between class for deodorant and to lint roll their pants, or grabbing a feminine hygiene product on the way to the girls room, I'm thankful for your help making sure my kids have what they need to be as great as they truly are.\r\n\r\nThanks again for your donations and help with my classroom this year!","fullyFundedDate":1752775045814,"projectUrl":"project/materials-for-success/9465559/","projectTitle":"Materials for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Amanda Tubb (Beristain)","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8936816_orig.png?crop=205,205,x0,y20&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748539978892","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrstubb"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_20171","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1814,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"35.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.4,"schoolId":20171,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hammond Central High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hammond Central High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/indiana/school-city-of-hammond/hammond-high-school/20171"}
