The students from many different classrooms came in each day to check on the chicks, making observations, see what day they were on, and talk to them. I never could have predicated how engaging it would be for so many students. \r\n\r\nWhen the students walked in Monday morning, I don't know who was more excited to see them hatching- the students or adults! Word quickly spread throughout the building that \"Mrs. Seibert's chicks hatched!\" They offered suggestions on names, closely watched the ones that hadn't yet hatched, and waited to hold the ones that were ready.\r\n\r\nBy providing the incubators and books, students were able to engage in this activity from start to finish. They were able to experience something completely new to them. Many children had never interacted with chickens or chicks before. They couldn't wait to use everything and were eager to take care of it because they knew it was a gift. Their joy filled the room.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll keep using these resources to strengthen reading and writing skills.
