Being able to enjoy a snack or two while working has helped my students to not only stay motivated but has helped maintain their energy as our class is right before lunch which doesn't start until 1:00pm. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they saw all of the snacks that they had to choose from. It's been fun for them coming to class each day and seeing what new snacks I have added to the classroom bin from the huge stash of snacks that I keep in my office from this project. In the first nine weeks of school, my students have been able to earn 28 high school credits! I feel like their success is a direct result of the fact that they can focus on their classes and not on the fact that they are hungry.\r\n\r\nI can't begin to express how grateful my students and I are for the generosity that was shown by so many people. Over the course of June and July I attended 14 four hour sessions to learn and practice mindfulness practices through breathwork, mental exercises and meditation, and yoga. While attending the live sessions, with people from all over the country, I was also actively engaged in asynchronous learning and practicing the skills we were learning as well as philosophy of mindfulness and yoga. The course culminated in designing and leading a mindfulness seminar and co-teaching a 45 minute yoga class. \r\n At the beginning of the course, both of those tasks felt insurmountable but by the end of the summer, I felt prepared and fully enjoyed designing and leading each experience. Throughout the class I was stretched out of my comfort zone and learned many great new skills that I am using to benefit my school community. \r\n As a result of the work that I did in the summer course, I am now officially a certified yoga instructor. This is the most exciting result of the work to me, because I am now equipped to provide opportunities for the people in my school community to safely create their own yoga practice and build both their physical and mental strength. I have been actively using the skills that I have learned to help students regulate their nervous systems and emotions to have more productive school days. I have been using those same skills to help regulate myself in stressful situations and create a healthy, intentional work community for myself and my coworkers. I am so grateful for this opportunity and all the good that I am now able to share in the world around me because of my experience with Breath For Change.","fullyFundedDate":1745259619502,"projectUrl":"project/mindful-teachers-empowered-students/9192893/","projectTitle":"Mindful Teachers, Empowered Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Shireman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9972933_orig.jpg?crop=699,699,x0,y20&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742482560389","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9972933"},{"teacherId":7628228,"projectId":9112478,"letterContent":"The level of support and caring my students and I have received from the people and businesses on this site is overwhelming.
