My students love my office and feel safe and comfortable here. I am using the water dispenser so my kids have clean fresh water to take their daily medications with. The now keep a LifeVac device with our AED in the cafeteria in case of a choking incident. I also keep a LifeVac device in my go-bag, which is my emergency kit that travels with me to any emergencies in the building.\r\nThe snacks were a huge hit, especially for my students with diabetes and low blood sugar. I also used the snacks for kids that may have missed breakfast or just needed a snack to help get through the day. And the band-aids, ah yes the band aids. They are a life saver in schools, if you know, you know. I gave individual baggies of bandaids to each teacher in the building so they were able to help minimize disruptions in their classroom and they felt more prepared. \r\nThank you all so much for donating. It means so much to me that people are willing to spend their own, hard earned dollars to help my students and I be successful here at Jefferson Middle School. We have already begun putting the materials to work during our Math Academy stations. Students are using the playing cards, dice, math games, flash cards, and reusable pockets to practice important foundational skills in ways that feel much more like a challenge or game than another worksheet. The timer has also been a great addition to our station rotations and helps students know how much time they have at each activity.\r\n\r\nIt has been wonderful to see students become more willing to practice skills that have been difficult for them in the past. Math fact fluency is an important focus for us, and these resources allow students to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and order of operations over and over in different ways. The hands-on materials also make it easier for me to adjust activities for different skill levels so that every student can experience success while still being challenged.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building these activities into our daily routine and use them as students strengthen their skills throughout the year. My hope is that as their math skills grow, their confidence will grow right along with them.
