We've been using them not only to introduce new content, but also to help bring vocabulary and structures to life in real contexts. The students enjoy having the visual support, as well as the \"detective work\" that reading provides—like uncovering new meanings, figuring out unfamiliar vocabulary, and making connections.\r\n\r\nWhen I first introduced the books, my students couldn't help but giggle at the \"elementary-esque\" style of class reading. But beyond the laughter, they quickly discovered how much they loved seeing what we're learning applied in a real and meaningful way. Sometimes we just need those visuals and the chance to interact with content in real time, and these books have been the perfect tool to do so. \r\nThank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. My students are using the bean bag chairs to practice repeated readings in a comfortable setting. They are more engaged and motivated to complete these repeated readings because of the comfortable chairs they get to sit in while reading. Repeated reading of a text is crucial to build orthographic mapping of words, which increases a student's fluency and ability to read text confidently and build comprehension... and now my students enjoy doing it!\r\n\r\nStudents are also using the positive affirmation signs to help build up confidence when something is difficult for them. They get to pick an affirmation to help remind themselves that they can do hard things. Reading lessons can be difficult for students and these affirmations help to keep them going!\r\n\r\nThe pocket chart has been helpful with organization of supplies and students enjoy knowing exactly how to find their supplies. We have also been using the sensory tape to help students who like to move while reading. This helps to keep the majority of their body still so their eyes can focus on the text but gives them the ability to have some movement at the same time.\r\n\r\nI appreciate your generosity with these resources for my students! We are working to build strong and motivated readers!","fullyFundedDate":1747598389248,"projectUrl":"project/creating-an-inviting-classroom/9336432/","projectTitle":"Creating an Inviting Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vahle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6883150"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_29213","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1567,"numTeachers":101,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":77,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":69.0,"schoolId":29213,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Quincy Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Quincy Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/quincy-school-district-172/quincy-senior-high-school/29213"}
