Yearbook staffers work behind the scenes to produce a product that the students will cherish. Most people have no idea how much time and dedication it takes to produce a quality book. My students spend HOURS of their time... in the evenings, on weekends and even during the SUMMER to create one amazing book. My students learn about work ethic and dedication, lessons that often cannot be taught in the context of a traditional class. The yearbook is completely self-sustaining; we receive no funding from our school to purchase computers or equipment. All of my students are passionate about journalism; many want to pursue careers in the field. Access to quality equipment will set them on the right path, which is something very important in my high poverty school.
