We use fidgets to help students focus while reading or completing writing assignments. We use candy as incentives for review games or for birthday recognition. Students also enjoy getting incentives (candy or other small items) for participating in review games or to be noticed on their birthdays. Many of our students struggle with school and noticing their birthdays helps them feel seen. They are also highly motivated by candy or small incentives and get very excited to participate in review if they receive candy. We also make certificates and shout outs for birthdays and give students a small item or candy to notice their birthdays and help them feel welcome at school.
