Your generosity has made a real difference in our classroom!\r\n\r\nMany of the books you donated have already become student favorites. My students absolutely love the I Survived books! They are especially excited to read about historical events through the perspective of characters who experience them. These books give us opportunities to work on important fifth-grade reading skills such as identifying the main idea, making inferences, understanding point of view, using context clues, and supporting ideas with evidence from the text. More importantly, they have helped many students see reading as something exciting rather than something they simply have to do.\r\n\r\nThe Who Was? books will also play an important role in our upcoming writing and social studies project. Students will choose a historical figure, research their life and accomplishments, and eventually present themselves as that historical figure to the class. These books will give students an accessible way to learn about important people in history while practicing research, nonfiction reading, note-taking, writing, and speaking skills.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks different throughout the day. Sometimes students are reading independently, sometimes they are discussing a text with a partner, and other times we are reading together and stopping to think deeply about what the author is teaching us. I love seeing students recommend books to one another, get excited when they find a book they enjoy, and become curious about topics they may not have explored before.\r\n\r\nAnd the seat cushions have been a HUGE hit! My students use them every single day. They love having a comfortable spot to sit while they read, work, and participate in lessons. Something as simple as a seat cushion can make students feel more comfortable and at home in our classroom, and I am so grateful that you helped make that possible.\r\n\r\nThe pencil sharpener has also become an everyday classroom essential! It may seem like a small item, but having dependable classroom supplies helps our day run smoothly and allows students to focus on learning.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to be able to provide my students with resources that encourage them to read, learn, create, and grow.
