On Monday, our students were learning from home and at the end of the day I had a little bit of time to get everything set up and ready. Right away on Tuesday morning, students were using the materials. When I brought my class to recess, it was so fun to see how they all gravitated towards a different toy. Some drew with chalk, some played basketball, some played soccer and a lot wanted to play with the bubble machine BUT it was way too windy so we had to try it again another day. It was a great recess and the kids are excited about the new items. They are the perfect size for the students to manage on their own while being large enough to store all of their morning play toys. I love the fact that we can still store all of their unstructured play items where it can be easily reached but also being out of the way that the items do not district us during the school day. We have been able to use these supplies at least once a week while creating a variety of art projects. I love seeing students be excited about art and learn how to use their minds to be creative. Students have painted pumpkins, made slime with the paint, learned how to draw and add textures to drawings. This is the time in first grade where their reading skills really take off.
