Even though my students have a classroom rule of no cell phones, most of the problems were solved. \r\n However, something was missing in my classroom. Something that was still not engaging and gathering the focused, sustained attention needed. What else...music!\r\nMy students were missing music in their lives. Walkmans, CD players, and even iPods solved this problem in the past, but now students rarely use their phones for music but rather to scroll the screens and watch others' lives. I decided to find a way to meet the best of both worlds.\r\n This is what my \"Music for the Soul\" has been able to accomplish for my students. After figuring out how to purchase music and download it, students now have access to a variety of genres throughout the day during study time and even during assessments. The mp3 players are serving over 80 students across 8 different classrooms. They live in a world that in which their classrooms are mostly paperless. These monitors are game changers for them and I often wish I put in for more of them! Students use them daily and cannot believe the impact they are having on ease of work completion instead of continuously toggling between screens.\r\n\r\nThe healthy food choices for incentives were also a hit! Selfishly I feel so much better about rewarding students with food if it is healthy food. Sometimes I could give my low income students breakfast or a snack with this as well and it made me feel better knowing these snacks would actually nourish them.
