We had two already, but adding in four more made sure that all of my students were able to use them instead of just watching. The excitement they had when learning how they work and getting to be the ones to control them was more than anything else this school year. \r\n\r\nWith these cars, students are learning to code by using colors to direct the car to do different things. We start with the basics, learning what each color does. Then, the students try to set up different paths for the cars to take. They have to understand the cause and effect of putting the different colors in the right places. My kinder, first grade, and special education students are working so hard and learning so much from using these devices. The final step is the challenge cards, where students have to figure out which color is the missing part of the path that is already set up. We brought in our older student buddies to help with this and even the big kids enjoyed the challenge.\r\n\r\nHaving enough sets of these types of devices is so important because it puts them in the hands of kids. We don't have to set up centers, where only a few kids can use them at a time. And we don't have to share with large groups where only one student works while they others watch. Having this amazing organization connect generous donors with our classrooms helps our students so much.","fullyFundedDate":1776431229340,"projectUrl":"project/coding-at-all-ages/10085567/","projectTitle":"Coding At All Ages","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Svec","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1089295_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1526574203780","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mspoturalski"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_29942","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":307,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.6,"schoolId":29942,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sunnydale Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sunnydale Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/elgin-school-district-u-46/sunnydale-elementary-school/29942"}
