The students are absolutely loving them, especially since they don't have to share them and they each get their own!!! Not only are students learning sequential programming, they are learning their left and right, measurements, and how to persevere when their program doesn't go as planned. This is probably the most important skill that they are learning! In computer science, programs rarely work the very first time. So students learn to go step by step and they learn to work through problems, instead of getting frustrated and giving up. That is what computational thinking is all about. We are creating problem solvers for jobs of the future. :) One fun activity we did was the monster map. Students had to code their beebot to get to the picture of the monster they selected on a large poster of various monsters. They loved the maps and the challenge to get it right. For November, I have the book about Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and my goal is to have the students code the parade route and have the Beebots pull the balloons they decorate. I can't wait and the students will love it! Because of your generosity, my students were able to experience a vibrant and meaningful exploration of culture, memory, and identity in a way that went far beyond textbooks.\r\n\r\nThe materials you helped fund allowed us to transform our classroom into a beautiful, reflective space—complete with marigold garlands, papel picado, LED candles, and craft supplies to create ofrendas (altars) honoring loved ones and cultural figures. When my students first saw the setup, their reactions were full of awe and excitement. One student whispered, \"It feels like we're actually there.\" That moment—when a classroom becomes a portal into another world—is exactly what this project made possible.\r\n\r\nStudents worked in groups to design personal or class-wide ofrendas, researched the history and significance of Día de los Muertos, and shared stories about people who have shaped their lives. The project invited empathy, reflection, and pride—especially among students who celebrate the holiday at home and were able to teach their peers about it firsthand.\r\n\r\nNext, we're using this momentum to launch a narrative writing unit where students will craft personal essays and fictional stories that explore memory, family, and legacy. The connections they made through this project are giving them a richer lens for writing with voice and purpose.\r\n\r\nThank you again for bringing this experience to life. Your support helped us build not just a classroom activity, but a powerful learning community.","fullyFundedDate":1632436019178,"projectUrl":"project/day-of-the-dead-immersive-experience/5839884/","projectTitle":"Day of the Dead Immersive Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hathaway","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5801387_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1632155747570","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hathaway"},{"teacherId":5801387,"projectId":3665192,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! Because of your kindness, we were able to bring in a beautiful new rug and a set of soft, round seat cushions that have completely transformed our learning space.\r\n\r\nThe moment my students walked in and saw the rug and cushions, their faces lit up. Several students immediately dropped their backpacks and asked, \"Can we sit here today?\" It was a clear sign that these additions weren't just decorations—they were invitations to feel at home in our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the new setup to great use. During our independent reading time, students naturally gravitate toward the rug, finding cozy corners and forming small reading circles. The cushions have also made our discussion-based lessons more engaging—students love choosing their own spots for our \"reading café\" discussions and small group projects. One student even said, \"It feels like a real book club now.\"\r\n\r\nRight now, we're working on a unit exploring identity through literature. Students are reading a choice of culturally diverse novels, and the new flexible seating has helped them feel more ownership and comfort during reading and reflection. We'll soon begin a culminating project where students create visual and written presentations about how their selected book speaks to themes of voice, community, and belonging.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our classroom feels more welcoming, student-centered, and inspiring. Your contribution didn't just fund materials—you helped create a space where students feel safe, curious, and eager to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1548814038601,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-library-facelift/3665192/","projectTitle":"Classroom Library Facelift","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hathaway","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5801387_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1632155747570","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hathaway"},{"teacherId":483387,"projectId":8938510,"letterContent":"We appreciate you and thank you for your support.
