My students will learn and apply their understanding of the metric system by exploring specifically designed centers that will allow them to make kinesthetic and visual connections to numbers. Students will understand how place value and the metric system play an integral part in unlocking the key to our understanding of the base ten system. Place value is the foundation in which mostly all math concepts are built. Our number system is based on a Base Ten system. It is essential that students are provided with fun opportunities to explore and become fluent in math metric facts. It is equally important that they understand and apply their efforts to higher level problem solving and real-world situations such as costs, weight, distances and time.
