The supplies that your donations provided were ESSENTIAL to several classes of students (5th, 7th, and 8th grades) this past spring as they, for the first time ever, performed an original piece of theatre on their auditorium stage. \r\n\r\nThis is how it happened: \r\n\r\n1. I shared the items with the students and let them explore and experiment in groups before determining who they were going to work with and what circus act they were going to develop. \r\n\r\n2. Students then planned their acts, including what they were going to do, with what, and who their characters were! \r\n\r\n3. Then students rehearsed their acts over and over and over, receiving feedback, making sure to apply that feedback to get better and better each time. \r\n\r\n4. Finally, students dressed up and performed their circus (The Circus of Wonders) in front of their peers and family members. Some acts including - juggling, jump roping, hula hooping, plate juggling, clowning, and dancing. \r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your support. Some students read the graphic novels, some students looked at the easier text versions, some students read the Spanish translations. As a result of these supplies, all of my students were able to access the story before we went to go and see the show performed by professional actors. \r\n\r\nAfter we saw the professional show, my students used the props that were part of the project to put on specific scenes from the show. Because of you, two classes of 5th grade students were able to read and adapt stories from cultures they were studying in SS. And because of this experience, the 5th graders were excited and ready to go when I suggested they do another performing unit with a full-fledged performance on the stage at the end of the year. \r\n\r\nI saw so much creativity come to life in my students through their engagement with the stories and cultures in this project.
