Your supplies helped us to make our summer school program even better. This summer I got to work with K-3 graders each day of summer school. Our curriculum was based on the books of Oge Mora, who is a collage artist. Her best known books are \"Thank You, Omu\" and \"Saturday.\" We worked on different projects each day that connect to the author/artist.\r\n\r\nWe also focused on the work of our good pal, Mr. Mo Willems. He is the author/artist of the Pigeon Books and Elephant and Piggie books. The scholars love those titles so much. They had a blast creating in the style of each of these artists.\r\n\r\nWe used the markers each day and those enormous googly eyes brought such joy! (And today when all of google went down, I brought out the left over googly eyes for my Middle School kids to do a little craft. It was a huge hit! Even the big kids are still kids at heart!)\r\n\r\nThank you so much for contributing to our project. This infusion of basic craft supplies went a long way this summer and continuing into this new school year.","fullyFundedDate":1742071943139,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-crafts/9162389/","projectTitle":"Books and Crafts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Donohue","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1329680_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y249&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661806270027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ccr-productions"},{"teacherId":1329680,"projectId":8686335,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the refresh of our favorite titles of picture books for my school library. It ignited so much excitement in my scholars. When the littles (K-2) come to the library, we have a story time on the carpet followed by independent reading time. For the Story Time, I will read a couple of books to them. Sometimes I use puppets to tell the story, or sometimes I will project a big version of the book on the screen and read from there. Sometimes, a good friend of mine will come join me and we will act out some stories! Often we will have a dance break, too!\r\n\r\nAs much fun as the story time is (it is A LOT of fun!), my favorite time is Independent Reading time. At the beginning of the year, many of the children can't read independently yet. But we still take time for them to go through the books. Each gets a \"Gaga Bear\" (my mother has knitted about 50 little bears) and gets to pick books to read to the Gaga Bear. We tell them to tell the bear the story they see in the pictures. We tell them to teach the bear all the letters they are learning in class. As the year progresses, we tell them to teach the bear all the new words that they know. Little by little their knowledge grows! \r\n\r\nWith these new books, often times they are so beloved that the scholar already knows the story and can tell their bear the whole story! Each of these interactions with books and bears creates a safe and fun memory of reading for the scholars. All of this helps to build strong readers and life long library kids.\r\n\r\nI am so grateful to your contribution to our little library! I wish you and your families a Happy Spring!","fullyFundedDate":1734580005072,"projectUrl":"project/freshen-up-our-school-library/8686335/","projectTitle":"Freshen Up Our School Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Donohue","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1329680_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y249&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661806270027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ccr-productions"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94603","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":500,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":98,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.0,"schoolId":94603,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Catalyst Charter School - Circle Rock on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Catalyst Charter School - Circle Rock","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/catalyst-charter-school-circle-rock/94603"}
