StoryWorks gives them rich, accessible texts that make them feel successful, and that feeling is priceless.\r\n\r\nI am so deeply grateful for this resource and the impact it's already having on my students. This support created a thoughtful learning environment for the students, a consistent space for self-reflection and expression. While they may not all enjoy doing the journals, they are all required to take a moment and reflect on the question and the impact of the lesson. \r\n\r\nThe journal notebooks have fostered a deeper sense of personal connection and ownership over the learning process within our classroom community. I have gained valuable insight into my students' individual interests, background knowledge, and any learning obstacles they may be encountering. As I get to know them better, I am able to meet them where they are more effectively and build the scaffolds they need to achieve all the goals.\r\n\r\nThe notebook essentially becomes a living portfolio of their growth, motivation, and unique voice, empowering students to see themselves not just as recipients of knowledge, but as active, reflective participants in their own educational journey.","fullyFundedDate":1754447533523,"projectUrl":"project/reflecting-on-experience/9533896/","projectTitle":"Reflecting on Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Killian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9865092_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754332132314","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9865092"},{"teacherId":9338464,"projectId":9138689,"letterContent":"Imagine coming to school and no one understands you. There is a picture I submitted of a girl rinsing her hands in the water. This girl does not like drama, but this project brought her in enough that she did make a cast of her hand. I had to include that picture because it was the most elegant reminder to hold dear baby steps.\r\n\r\nThe second most impactful thing I learned was, I can dream bigger than I can do at the moment. We did not get to do the performance I had designed because the work took much longer than expected. Each mask takes about twenty minutes to set on the face, then by the time the students come back the next week the mask has to be formed and ready to paint -- and we get an hour to start and finish that, then the next week... an hour per class per week was much less time than I had envisioned, so we had to pare down much of the work. We are still working on the masks even now and I will carry the project through the end of the year. And next year do it again, with better planning and timing.\r\n\r\nNot all students wanted to do the mask to their faces so we did a lot of hands. I plan on making a sculpture of the hands to remember the classes by. This was a massive shift in the year. Your generosity gave the students a whole new experience and taught me how to do better by them.","fullyFundedDate":1734712128649,"projectUrl":"project/masks-and-trickster-folktales/8991567/","projectTitle":"Masks and Trickster Folktales","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Killian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9865092_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754332132314","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9865092"},{"teacherId":9338464,"projectId":8909930,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donation. The items came in three separate shipments so each time they saw what was inside they were super excited. The sensory tent allows students to escape the busyness of the world around them. They loved this item the most, so much so that I had to create a rotation system to allow multiple people to enjoy it. The giant bean bag is also a huge hit. Students love to flop back on it like a \"trust fall\". \r\n You are making a difference in young lives. One of my favorite quotes from a student was \"I use it when I feel stressed \" written on a thank you note. I knew that needed time for emotional regulation but this only solidified that we are going in the right direction.
