Using the materials you provided, students worked in teams to plan their designs, test different structures, and revise their work based on results. One standout moment was watching students redesign their boomilevers after early tests failed—students quickly shifted from frustration to problem-solving, asking thoughtful questions and supporting one another as they improved their designs.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were immediately engaged. They examined the supplies, shared ideas, and began sketching designs before the lesson even officially started. Several students who are usually hesitant to participate became deeply involved, taking on leadership roles within their groups and explaining their thinking to classmates. The hands-on nature of the project helped students make real connections to concepts like forces, stability, and load distribution.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for students include analyzing test data, comparing designs, and reflecting on what made certain structures more successful than others. Students are connecting their work to real-world engineering challenges, such as how bridges support weight and how engineers design structures to be both strong and efficient. This project helped students build confidence in their ability to think like engineers and showed them that problem-solving, teamwork, and persistence are at the heart of STEM learning. Thank you for giving our students an experience that was both meaningful and empowering.","fullyFundedDate":1760576950832,"projectUrl":"project/hover-lift-build-spark-stem-in-actio/9682485/","projectTitle":"Hover, Lift, Build, Spark: STEM in Action!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Freymuth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp151538_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1465309829268","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-freymuth"},{"teacherId":10107802,"projectId":9527094,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now have a safe, welcoming space where they can explore their emotions, build self-awareness, and practice healthy coping skills. We use the books, calming tools, and SEL supplies during small groups, classroom lessons, and individual check-ins. One especially meaningful moment was during a feelings-identification activity, when a student who is usually quiet confidently pointed to an emotion card and shared, \"This is how I feel at home sometimes.\" Moments like this remind me how powerful it is to give students the language and tools to express themselves in a supportive environment.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement and curiosity were immediate—they eagerly explored the books, asked questions about the calming tools, and shared which items made them feel \"safe\" or \"relaxed.\" These resources have helped normalize conversations about emotions and mental health in our space. Next, we are building on this foundation by using the books to guide lessons on empathy, problem-solving, and self-regulation, while continuing to practice coping strategies students can use both in school and at home.
