We began by exploring the solar system models as a whole class, and then students worked in small groups to demonstrate how the Earth rotates on its axis, how the Moon orbits the Earth, and how both revolve around the Sun. One of my favorite moments was watching students use academic vocabulary like rotation, revolution, orbit, and axis while explaining seasons to their classmates, which were concepts that had previously been difficult for them to visualize from a textbook and videos alone.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were thrilled. They were eager to explore and immediately began asking higher-level questions such as why the Moon appears to change shape and how Earth's movement affects day and night. The models sparked instant curiosity and supported multiple learning styles by combining visuals with clear explanations. The Earth science posters have become daily reference tools during both science and reading lessons. The organized bins have also helped me manage materials, which has allowed me too cover more science in the same amount.\r\n\r\nThese materials will also remain an important part of our classroom for years to come, allowing future classes of fifth graders to experience the same hands-on, engaging science learning. Thanks to your generosity, my students are not just memorizing facts about space, they are building deeper understanding through inquiry, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion.","fullyFundedDate":1763589255564,"projectUrl":"project/future-super-scientists/9778986/","projectTitle":"Future Super Scientists","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Goodsnyder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9631068_orig.png?crop=506,506,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756320072435","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9631068"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28345","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2597,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":14,"percentAsian":56,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"72.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.1,"schoolId":28345,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Meridian School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Meridian School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/aptakisic-tripp-sch-dist-102/meridian-middle-school/28345"}
