My students use the boards daily for collaborative learning activities, problem solving, and modeling scientific concepts. During a recent lesson on energy transfer, student groups used the boards to draw diagrams, label forms of energy, and explain how energy moves through different systems. The ability to stand together around a board, revise ideas, and share their thinking with the class created a much more interactive learning experience. Students who are sometimes hesitant to participate became more willing to contribute because they could easily erase and revise their work as they discussed ideas with their peers.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the boards, they were genuinely excited. Many immediately asked if they would get to \"teach like the teacher\" and work at the boards during class activities. The mobility of the boards quickly transformed the classroom atmosphere into one that felt more collaborative and student-centered. Students enjoy being able to physically move to different stations, brainstorm together, and present their ideas in a visible way. The boards have also helped students feel more confident sharing their thinking because their work can be adjusted in real time without the pressure of a permanent written response.\r\n\r\nAs we begin a new school year this fall, these boards will remain an important part of our science investigations and group projects. Students will use them to graph experimental data, develop scientific models, organize evidence for CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) responses, and collaborate during engineering design challenges. The boards are helping students build communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while making science more engaging and accessible for all learners. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, my classroom now has tools that encourage active participation and deeper understanding every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1778109919350,"projectUrl":"project/mobile-dry-erase-boards-for-science-inst/10152152/","projectTitle":"Mobile Dry Erase Boards for Science Instruction","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Weter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp353996_orig.jpg?crop=2022,2022,x270,y308&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1600444864111","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-weter"},{"teacherId":353996,"projectId":9761039,"letterContent":"We are so thankful and appreciative of the supplies that were donated to our classroom. The markers have been an incredible addition -students have used them to create vibrant posters, complete interactive math activities, and bring color and clarity to their problem-solving work. These simple tools have turned everyday assignments into creative, hands-on learning experiences, helping students engage more deeply with math concepts while taking pride in their presentations.\r\n\r\nThe Polaroid camera has quickly become one of the most exciting tools in our room. While many people use cameras for fun at home, in our classroom it has become a way to celebrate progress and build confidence. We've started capturing our \"Mathematicians of the Month,\" and students absolutely light up when their photo is taken and added to our growing math achievement wall. Even students who are normally shy are standing a little taller, knowing their hard work can be recognized in such a special and lasting way. One student proudly told me, \"I've never been on a wall before!\"—a reminder of just how powerful recognition can be.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our math space is brighter, more joyful, and more meaningful for every learner. These items have helped us celebrate growth, fuel creativity, and show students that their efforts truly matter. We have doubled the size of our club. We have had way more students coming to the club to learn both games. It has been so great to have so many students at some many different levels come and enjoy learning and playing with each other. \r\n\r\nThe checkers sets were a great way for many students who felt intimidated to start playing chess. They are also used with students who do not have time to complete another chess round, will go over and complete a checkers game with a new opponent. \r\n\r\nThe Chess Timers have also been greatly enjoyed! Students feel more official playing with them and they have given them confidence as they feel like serious chess players. Many of the books focus on identity, a topic that encourages students to make text-to-self and text-to-world connections. These stories also help students practice comprehension strategies like making inferences, analyzing character development, and identifying theme. Several titles feature diverse voices and relatable middle school experiences, which has made it easier for students to see themselves in what they read while broadening their understanding of others' perspectives.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading takes many forms. Students have independent reading time several times a week, where they can choose books that match their interests and reading levels. We also hold small group discussions, reading conferences, and \"book talks\" that allow students to share recommendations and reflect on what they're learning. The classroom library has become a space where reading feels personal, enjoyable, and community-oriented. Students often browse the shelves between activities or trade books with friends. \r\n\r\nSeeing these students connect with stories on a deeper level has been one of the most rewarding outcomes of the project.
