We are currently in the middle of the novel \"Restart\". The children are beyond excited about this story and begged to read more chapters every day. It has really helped to engage all students in our reading activities, and even the reluctant readers are excited to read aloud and share their ideas about the novel. The students were very eager to get started! We have gone for garden walks, read books about gardening and made circle maps with our current knowledge around growing vegetables and flowers. We have assigned gardening jobs and the students are so careful when it is their turn to water or weed. We have been able to plant, propogate and tend to our plants. The students have enjoyed studying seeds, and graphing our progress.\r\nOur next steps for this project are to assemble a cookbook with possible recipes from our garden vegetables. We are getting our families involved and hoping to share new recipes with our class. Having this chart stand with whiteboard has been such a wonderful addition to my classroom. We use it every morning. I write a morning message for my students. One of our classroom leaders uses a pointer to point as the class reads the message aloud. This opportunity is great for the leader as well as the other students. The leader is practicing how to point to every word in the sentence as well as being in charge of their classmates. The other students are able to see the morning message in large letters/words. On the back, I hung a pocket chart with all of the students names. Math has become much more engaging for my students and their teacher because of the inclusion of the rolling whiteboards into our math class. By the second day, they built on their new experience, demonstrated persistence and experienced more success. By the time they built the rollercoasters, they were much better at trouble shooting and willing to take things apart and try again.
