The movement these seats provide, help my students to focus better and gives a sense of grounding during difficult conversations. It simply provides a comfortable space for my students to practice coping strategies. During one of my sessions, I had a student, who generally struggles to stay engaged, looked up at me and said, \"This seat helps my body feel calm.\" These resources are helping my students regulate, reflect and heal in ways that traditional seating just couldn't support. \r\n\r\nMy students' first reaction...\r\nMy students who saw the new wobble feet for the first time were super curious to try it out. Many laughed as they tested it out. Several students said things like, \" Whoa, this is fun!\" and \"This chair helps me to think!\" Tools like this will help my students to build confidence and self-awareness as they are learning to regulate there bodies and feelings. These skills will help them far beyond our counseling sessions.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and in the power of comfort, movement and emotional support. I am seeking your support to bring a garden box to our classroom, where our young learners can grow, learn, and experience the wonders of nature firsthand. With your help, we will cultivate a deeper understanding of science, responsibility, and teamwork while developing a lifelong love for the environment. This project teaches our students valuable lessons about sustainability, community, and connection to ʻāina (the land). Hawaiian culture has long emphasized the deep, reciprocal relationship between people and the land. ʻĀina-based learning is an essential part of our education system in Hawaii, as it helps students understand how to care for and respect the land that nourishes us. By incorporating a garden box into our classroom, we will allow students to connect with this traditional way of learning, fostering respect for the environment and promoting sustainability practices in our everyday lives. With this garden box, they will not only learn about plant life cycles and ecosystems but also about how the principles of ʻāina—such as mālama ʻāina (caring for the land)—are critical to preserving our environment for future generations. This project will help cultivate a sense of responsibility, pride, and cultural connection to the land, all of which are integral to the Hawaiian way of life. By supporting this project, you are helping us plant seeds not just for a brighter future in the classroom, but for a more sustainable and harmonious relationship with ʻāina that will last a lifetime.
