My students are very active youngsters with special needs. Many of them also have sensory issues (need additional sensory input, sensory sensitivity, self-calming or self-regulating difficulties). These issues also lead to difficulty with learning basic academic concepts. Providing the students with a trampoline from School Specialty to expend some energy, and activities such as a sand and water station from Kaplan and the sand and water accessories from Kaplan and Lakeshore Learning, will help provide the sensory input that my students need to decrease disruptive behaviors in the classroom. In addition, these activities will help develop cognitive abilities and learn basic concepts they will need in preparation for kindergarten.
