The specific moment that highlighted their value was when a student, who often struggles to focus while sitting, smoothly adjusted his desk to standing height and continued working while subtly shifting his weight. This small movement allowed him to maintain concentration, demonstrating the benefit of having movement available while learning. A big takeaway is the sense of autonomy and ownership. Your support has significantly enriched our established outdoor classroom and hands-on learning program. The essential supplies you funded—including soil and a wide variety of seeds—are allowing our students to continue learning firsthand about plant life cycles and nurturing growth. We have already established our garden as a dynamic, real-world science lab where students can observe local ecosystems and track different species throughout the seasons. The thoughtful inclusion of clay also allows us to integrate art, as students plan to create unique holiday gifts. Your investment goes beyond mere supplies; it plants a seed for a lifelong passion for science and environmental stewardship in our young students.\r\n\r\nWe are especially thankful for the modern tools that enhance our learning documentation. We are currently using the new iPad and durable case directly in the garden to document plant growth with photos and videos, and conduct simple research on insects and gardening techniques right there in the garden. Students are using their watches to:\r\nStart conversations with peers and teachers. Many students proudly share their step counts or activity goals, creating natural opportunities to practice initiating dialogue and maintaining back-and-forth exchanges.\r\nBuild vocabulary and descriptive language. When comparing data (e.g., \"I walked 2,000 steps today!\"), students use numbers, time concepts, and action words more frequently and accurately.\r\nIncrease confidence in speaking. The excitement around personal achievements encourages students to explain their progress, ask questions, and engage in group discussions.\r\nIn speech and language therapy sessions, these watches have added an extra layer of motivation and relevance. Students eagerly describe their step counts, explain how they earned them, and set personal goals—activities that naturally prompt longer utterances, clear articulation, and more organized language. We are using watch data for conversations, sequencing events (\"first I walked to recess, then I ran at PE\"), and practicing social skills. The watches have also encouraged students who are typically hesitant to speak to participate more, making therapy sessions more dynamic, interactive, and productive.\r\nThese watches are helping my students take big strides in communication!","fullyFundedDate":1748980693647,"projectUrl":"project/talk-time-empowering-voices-with-smartw/9386011/","projectTitle":"Talk Time: Empowering Voices with Smartwatches","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lapham","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7839292_orig.jpg?crop=1118,1118,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1620158429237","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-andrea-speech"},{"teacherId":8361557,"projectId":9158914,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity in purchasing the reading and math centers for my 2nd grade class.
