For many of my special education students, the traditional wooden desk can be a source of physical restlessness or sensory overstimulation, which often creates a barrier to deep reading. By providing options like wiggle seats, cushioned chairs, and adjustable seating, you have allowed my students to find the \"just right\" physical state needed to focus. In a high school setting, where academic demands are rigorous, having a space that respects their sensory needs has made the act of picking up a book feel less like a chore and more like an invited escape.\r\n\r\nThe change in classroom culture was immediate. Instead of seeing students struggle to stay in their seats, I now see them eagerly claiming their favorite spots, settling in with a sense of ownership and peace. This environment is particularly vital here in Hawaii, where we strive to foster a sense of 'ohana and belonging in our schools. Your generosity has provided more than just furniture; you have provided the physical infrastructure for confidence. My students are now engaging with complex texts for longer periods, showing increased stamina and a genuine enthusiasm for our English curriculum that simply wasn't there before.\r\n\r\nAs a group, we're reading Into the Wild. With these new options for seating, I see my kids letting their guard down and confidently reading aloud. They share ideas with each other and collaborate on a regular basis. This project has been a game changer for me and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1759602396998,"projectUrl":"project/comfortable-and-adaptive-seating/9782278/","projectTitle":"Comfortable and Adaptive Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Milanczuk","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10099577"},{"teacherId":6035317,"projectId":9772895,"letterContent":"Since receiving these resources, my students and I have been able to dive into our lessons with a renewed sense of excitement and focus. One of my favorite moments happened during a recent math activity where students used the new calculators to solve real world problem solving scenarios. For many of them, having access to reliable tools for the first time made the lesson feel more achievable and even fun. Watching their confidence grow as they worked through challenging problems together was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first walked in and saw the supplies laid out especially the snacks and handson learning tools the room lit up. Several students asked, \"Are these really for us?\" Their excitement quickly turned into pride. For students who often face barriers outside the classroom, having materials provided just for them meant more than I can fully express. They felt seen, supported, and valued.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using these resources to deepen our collaborative learning. Students will work in small groups to tackle math challenges using the calculators and manipulatives, while the snacks help ensure everyone stays energized and focused. We're also building toward a classroom goal setting project, where the positive and welcoming environment boosted by the new decorations will support students as they develop both academic and personal goals for the semester.\r\n\r\nThese resources are already making our classroom feel more like a true learning hub a place where students feel secure, confident, and ready to take on new challenges. The calculators have been especially impactful—giving students the tools they need to approach complex problems with increased confidence and independence. The math workbooks have also become a key resource, offering structured practice and helping reinforce critical concepts.\r\n\r\nIn addition to academic tools, the games we introduced through this project—like Sorry and Monopoly Chance—have added a fun and valuable dimension to our classroom. These activities, while enjoyable, support important skills like logic, strategic thinking, and spatial awareness. Perhaps even more importantly, they've provided students with a chance to relax, recharge, and build stronger peer relationships.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out to me was when we first brought out the games. A group of students who rarely interacted ended up playing Monopoly Chance together. By the end of the match, they were all laughing and had clearly made a new connection. It was a beautiful reminder of how simple tools can spark meaningful experiences.\r\n\r\nThe excitement when the students first saw the new materials was unforgettable. They were eager to dive in, and since then, our classroom has become a more inviting and joyful place to learn. The atmosphere is lighter, more collaborative, and more supportive overall.\r\n\r\nCurrently, our focus is on building algebraic reasoning, and the tools you've helped provide are allowing students to challenge themselves more deeply and engage with content that was previously intimidating.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has had a lasting impact, not only on our lessons but on the overall well-being and confidence of our students.
