Snacks have been an integral part of our classroom in these first few weeks. In our classroom, snacks are not earned. As we know, teenagers are hungry! Furthermore, we know that students cannot work their best if their basic needs have not been met. With your generous donations, we've been able to supply all of our students with snacks throughout their school day. \r\n\r\nMy students were amazed with all the snacks in the classroom! With excitement they asked, \"is this for us?\" They were even more excited to learn that it wasn't a part of a classroom store or something they needed to earn. It was explained to them that these snacks are to help them get a little boost throughout the day. \r\n\r\nAs you can see in the photos shared, our snacks are currently stored in boxes scattered around our \"food\" area in the classroom. Our next steps will be to organize and plan to have snacks readily available for our students consistently throughout the school year for multiple years to come. We can do this with your support. Sometimes our students just need that extra boost. A snack can always give that extra boost! Those were simply the tools. The real investment was in helping students realize that their reading, writing, and perseverance have purpose.\r\n\r\nMy students have worked hard all year, steadily growing through Lexia Reading. They kept showing up, completing units, and pushing themselves—even when the celebrations they were hoping for never happened. I didn't want that to be the ending of their story.\r\n\r\nInstead, we changed the narrative.\r\n\r\nYour generosity helped us celebrate effort while giving students the opportunity to use their literacy in a meaningful way. They wrote letters that encouraged, thanked, and connected with members of our community, discovering that words aren't just something we practice in class—they're something that can make a real difference.\r\n\r\nSometimes the greatest lesson isn't found in a textbook. It's learning that your voice matters, your effort is noticed, and there are complete strangers who believe you're worth investing in.\r\n\r\nThank you for being one of those people. Your kindness didn't just support a classroom project—it reminded a group of students that their community believes in them, and that's a lesson they'll carry long after this school year ends.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students, our community, and the power of literacy.","fullyFundedDate":1778190436072,"projectUrl":"project/our-literacy-our-investment/10241624/","projectTitle":"Our Literacy, Our Investment","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Green","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8979492_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1678757397602","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8979492"},{"teacherId":539978,"projectId":10198460,"letterContent":"Because of your generous support, our classroom is no longer just a room where students sit and listen; it has become a dynamic hub of active, collaborative discovery. The arrival of our new rolling vertical whiteboards has fundamentally shifted how my students engage with complex concepts every single day.\r\n\r\nAn Unforgettable Unboxing\r\nWhen the students walked into the room and saw the brand-new rolling whiteboards standing around the perimeter, their eyes lit up. There was an immediate wave of excitement and curiosity—they couldn't wait to grab dry-erase markers and get to work. For many of my quieter students, the novelty of standing up and writing on a large vertical surface instantly broke down the usual hesitation that comes with sitting at a desk with a pencil and paper. The energy in the room was electric before the lesson even officially began.\r\n\r\nVisible Thinking in Action\r\nWe are putting these vertical non-permanent surfaces to use across multiple subjects. During a recent multi-step problem-solving lesson, students worked in small groups clustered around the rolling boards. Instead of working in isolation on individual worksheets, groups were huddled together, brainstorming out loud, sketching out complex diagrams, and rapidly testing ideas.\r\n\r\nOne stand-out moment occurred when a group hit a major roadblock in their calculations. Rather than getting frustrated or erasing paper until it tore, a student picked up an eraser, wiped the section clean with a smile, and said, \"Okay, that idea didn't work—let's try a new angle.\" The low-stakes nature of writing on whiteboards gives students the freedom to make mistakes, adapt quickly, and take creative risks without fear.\r\n\r\nThe Impact of Your Gift\r\nBy moving learning from horizontal desks to vertical surfaces, the daily dynamic in our classroom has shifted in three key ways:\r\n\r\nIncreased Engagement: Students who used to hesitate to participate are now eager to stand up, grab markers, and dive into problems head-first.\r\n\r\nVisible Thinking: It is much easier for me to check for understanding at a glance and for students to observe and learn from one another's thought processes in real-time.\r\n\r\nCollaborative Spirit: These rolling boards naturally encourage students to huddle together, brainstorm, and iterate on their ideas as a team.\r\n\r\nLooking Ahead: Next Steps\r\nAs we dive into our upcoming unit, students will be using the mobility of these boards to run student-led \"gallery walks.\" Each group will roll their finished vertical board to the center of the room to present their solutions, receive real-time peer feedback, and refine their work based on suggestions from their classmates.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the tools to think visibly, collaborate deeply, and take ownership of their learning every day!","fullyFundedDate":1778119921373,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-rolling-vertical-thinking-in/10198460/","projectTitle":"Let’s Get Rolling: Vertical Thinking in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Mx.
