Providing healthy snacks helped improve their energy, attention, and readiness to learn each day.\r\n\r\nThe project also helped nurture students' confidence and communication skills. As students felt supported and cared for, they became more willing to speak, share ideas, participate in class discussions, and collaborate with others. Their growth in using English and expressing themselves became more visible inside the classroom. One of EL students even hosted our Family cultural Fun night and used the JBL speaker to practice and became more confident.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project reminded students that their voices matter. My students were absolutely ecstatic when the packages arrived; there were literal cheers and a few \"is this really for us?\" whispers as we unboxed the colorful manipulatives and snacks. One of the most memorable moments occurred during our first \"Munchie Math\" session, where students used the new tactile tools to build geometric fractions before \"calculating\" their way to a healthy snack reward. Seeing a student who previously struggled with abstract division suddenly have an \"aha!\" moment because they could physically move and group the manipulatives was a highlight that reminded me exactly why this project mattered.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using these resources daily to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and hands-on application. The manipulatives have turned our standard curriculum into an interactive laboratory where mistakes are just part of the building process. Looking ahead, our next steps involve a \"Marketplace Math\" simulation. Students will use their new resources to design their own \"pop-up shops,\" calculating inventory, managing costs, and practicing real-world arithmetic. The colored pencils, crayons, markers, glue, and pencil cases helped students stay organized and fully engaged throughout the project.\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were excited and eager to begin working. Many of them immediately started planning how they wanted to design and decorate their projects. Having enough supplies for everyone made a huge difference in the classroom environment. Students were able to focus on learning and creating instead of worrying about sharing limited materials. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and pride as their projects came together.\r\nThe projects turned out excellent because students had the tools they needed to express their creativity and showcase what they learned about the Pacific Islands. I'm glad to share that with your support, students have been able to access new SEL resources for the remainder of the year, and well into next school year! \r\n\r\nI'd like to offer some perspective in how your donations are used every single day: Though seemingly small, our rolling supplies cart is one of the most popular hubs in our office. Now a common routine, students walk through the door and reach into the supplies bin for calming kits and sensory tools. Another student may shuffle through the bins to aide a quiet, solo drawing session. During group sessions, we pull out our bin for peer activities. Such a simple object helped us to increase engagement with so many kiddos! \r\n\r\nSEL Curriculum books have helped to facilitate IEP and 504 goal mastery in areas of executive functioning, social-skills and emotional regulation. One of my personal favorites has been the SEL Workbook for children with Autism; The clear pictures and instructions make it easy for kiddos to choose their own preferred activity. \r\n\r\nNew fidgets have also been a huge hit, replacing old tools that have worn over time. Before this project, many of our students were using broken fidgets. Pens, pencils and sensory stickers have been restocked in our office free-store, so students feel prepared for each day. \r\n\r\nI've noticed that our new dry erase boards and markers help students who benefit from visual and hands-on learning. Dry erase pockets have been a huge help with our students who require graphic organizers and visual aides to structure their activities. \r\n\r\nIn closing, I would like to share one of my favorite Olelo No'eau translated by beloved Mary Kawena Pukui, \"He Lei Poina 'Ole Ke Keiki\" - a child is as precious as a treasured lei never forgotten. We already have students asking to take items from the cart and sharing their gratitude for access to items such as deodorant. \r\n\r\nThe other items in this project will be used for my future students as I begin preparing for the following school year. The class library is slowly growing and \"To Kill a Mockingbird\" will be the newest book attended to the library. This book will be used in my Honors ELA classes where students will have the opportunity to explore poignant themes that are relatable to our current lives. The binding machine will also be wonderful addition as many of my students struggle with keeping all of their papers. These materials are not merely supplies; they are allow for creativity and deeper understanding.\r\n\r\nMy students have actively utilized these resources in various capacities. For instance, the colored pencils and cardstock have become indispensable for our Social Studies assignments, particularly in illustrating Hawaiian Native Plants and sketching detailed Ahupua'a drawing. The copy paper is consistently used for drafting and refining their Kamehameha Comic Scripts, allowing for iterative design and revision without the constraint of limited paper. The electric pencil sharpener ensures that their tools are always ready, minimizing interruptions and maximizing creative flow.\r\n\r\nA particularly memorable moment occurred when the materials were first arrived. The students' eyes widened with excitement, and joy filled the room. One student exclaimed, \"Wow, real art supplies!\" They were very enthusiastic in demonstrating the immediate value they placed on these much need resources. This initial reaction underscored the importance of providing high-quality tools that empower students to express themselves.\r\n\r\nStudents showcased their Kamehameha Comic Scripts, Hawaiian Native Plants and the Ahupua'a project using the cardstock as well as boxes, constructions paper and recycled items, bringing their historical narratives to life .\r\n\r\nHaving these materials has significantly enhanced my teaching capabilities. I am now able to implement more project-based learning activities that require visual representation and hands-on creation, which were previously limited by resource constraints. This has allowed for a more comprehensive and engaging exploration of Hawaiian history and culture, moving beyond rote memorization to a deeper, more experiential understanding and team building.
