When my students first saw the supplies, they were surprised at first, then happy and excited to use them in class. Though some supplies were used for teacher-use only, they were still so content with the possibility that our classroom could be filled with nice, new school supplies. There were a lot of the supplies that were necessary, but often go unseen by anyone other than the teacher. Because of your help with this project, my first year of teaching has been going way more smoother than it was in the beginning of the year without these supplies. My students also feel a bit special being able to be the first ones using this school supplies, and it makes them engage more with the lessons when theyʻre able to use it. \r\n\r\nMy hopes are to continue utilizing these supplies this year and for many more years to come. We have been using our supplies almost everyday, like our clipboards, highlighters, color pencils, erasers, alphabet posters, and more. Thanks to you, that vision is now a reality.\r\n\r\nI wanted to give you a quick \"behind the scenes\" look at how your contribution is already shaping our students' day-to-day experience:\r\n\r\nCollaboration at the Center: The new group tables have completely changed our room's energy. Instead of students sitting in isolated rows, I now see them leaning in, working together, and tackling problems as a team.\r\n\r\nOrganization Equals Focus: With the new folders and supplies, the \"chaos\" of searching for materials has vanished. My students are starting their lessons calm, prepared, and ready to focus on the work at hand rather than distractions.\r\n\r\nA Teacher Ready to Teach: It might sound small, but having a sturdy, comfortable chair means I can spend less time struggling with equipment and more time moving among the students, sitting at their level, and providing the one-on-one guidance they need to thrive.\r\n\r\nSustainability & Longevity: The laminator has already become our favorite tool! It allows us to preserve high-quality learning materials that we can use, reuse, and share for years to come. It feels great to be able to build a library of resources that will support future classes, too.\r\n\r\nYou have given my students more than just supplies; you have given them a space that says, \"You are worth investing in.\" When students feel comfortable and organized, they are naturally more creative, collaborative, and confident.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students' potential and for being a vital part of their success story this year.","fullyFundedDate":1769632946508,"projectUrl":"project/success-starts-with-supplies/9773846/","projectTitle":"Success Starts with Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kumu Kaleinani","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8096538_orig.jpg?crop=1621,1621,x0,y1119&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739310962480","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8096538"},{"teacherId":7938662,"projectId":9786047,"letterContent":"Thank you so much to DonorsChoose and the generous donors who supported our classroom!\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, we were able to complete our Piggie and Elephant collection and add new \"Then and Now\" history books. Instead of only solving problems on paper, students collect real data from the pond itself. They measure water depth, calculate ratios and proportions for salinity levels, track temperature changes, and record statistics about plant growth and biodiversity. Math has become something they can see, touch, and apply with purpose.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were excited and eager to get started right away. There was a noticeable shift in energy — they weren't asking, \"Do we have to do math?\" but rather, \"When do we get to test the water?\" and \"Can I carry the equipment?\" Having real scientific tools made them feel trusted, capable, and like true researchers caring for their ʻāina.\r\n\r\nOne special moment happened during our first data-collection day. A group of students compared salinity readings from two areas of the pond and began debating why one side supported more limu growth. They used their measurements to form hypotheses and proudly explained their reasoning to classmates. They weren't just practicing math skills — they were thinking critically and solving real-world problems together.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue gathering data to look for patterns over time. They'll create graphs, analyze trends, and present their findings, connecting math, science, and stewardship. Our goal is for them to design recommendations to help restore the lokowai's ecosystem using the evidence they collect.\r\n\r\nYour support has transformed math from abstract numbers on a page into meaningful learning rooted in place, culture, and responsibility.
