The kids love the backrests and laptops that allow them to sit on the floor to get their work done. I have a book club starting soon, and I can just picture the kids laying around on the rug, and using the backrests to be comfortable while we discuss the book. \r\n\r\nThe puzzles are also terrific. I wish I could have take a picture of their reaction.\r\nBecause you have donated the money for these shoes, we are now allowed to use the gym to have our PE class in. Prior to that, if a student did not have shoes, which was very frequent, they could not participate in our PE class in the gym. Instead of only telling students what good behavior looks like, I can celebrate students who are showing their classmates a great example.\r\n\r\nSometimes I surprise students in the moment, and other times we work toward a behavior goal for the day or week. This might mean being ready in line with hands by their sides, eyes forward, and voices quiet; showing good listening behavior on our learning carpet; or earning participation points for trying, answering questions, and being involved in lessons. At the end of the week, I can recognize students who consistently demonstrated those expectations. The excitement of possibly earning a small fidget has been a fun way to motivate my first graders while helping them understand that their positive choices matter.
