My students have been so excited about the new books in our classroom library, such that they are more engaged and motivated to read throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nNow, when my students have opportunities to choose a book to read in the morning and during designated reading times, they excitedly head to our classroom library to select one of our new books to read. Some students have also asked to borrow some of the new books to read at home, which shows how much they enjoy having a greater variety of books to choose from.\r\n\r\nIn addition, I use our new books for some of my small group intervention. When meeting with students, I let students choose a book to read and have them practice different reading/comprehension skills and strategies, such as rereading and summarizing--and my students have been more enthusiastic about practicing reading during these times. Therefore, our new books have helped me to better engage my students in strengthening their reading/comprehension skills and strategies.\r\n\r\nOverall, these new books have helped me to continue to foster a love of reading among my students. We will continue to use our new books to not only become better readers, but also strengthen the joy of reading.
