Thanks to your contribution, we have been able to provide tools and programs designed to foster these essential skills. We really appreciate your generosity, and willingness to allow us the space to explore the campaign process, and delve deep into the world of politics, even if it was for a pretend election, at our school.\r\nStudents are great at expressing opinions, and that's what this project really delved into: their opinions on how to improve our beloved Kaimuki High School. But what was really meaningful was extending that learning to think about how to actually make those improvements. If they were given the reigns to be principal of Kaimuki, what would they do to help solve the issues? It opened their mind beyond just grumbling about a problem, and helped guide them toward being solution-oriented. It came up a few times during our conversations that \"This is so difficult!\" or \"I don't know how our principal does it!\" Which is gratifying because at least they understand that even if their problems don't get solved right away, it's not because our principal isn't trying to help.\r\nAnyhow, with your donation, we were able to print campaign posters. These were used in their campaign videos, and then placed around campus and my classroom to campaign for themselves. These included a slogan and other information about the campaign. Students designed them on Canva, and we used the 11x17 paper and the printer to print hard copies, to really make the project come to life.","fullyFundedDate":1759424212904,"projectUrl":"project/principal-for-the-day/9775426/","projectTitle":"Principal for the Day","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Matsui","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10294119"},{"teacherId":3020552,"projectId":9869045,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our butterfly garden project. The resources provided for our collaboration and visible thinking project made a meaningful difference in how students engaged with the work. It created a space where students felt comfortable contributing ideas, responding to one another, and working together toward shared understanding.\r\n\r\nThe sticky easel pads supported collaboration in powerful ways. Students were able to brainstorm as groups, rotate to view peers' ideas, and build upon each other's thinking in real time. This structure encouraged communication, critical thinking, and respectful dialogue, especially for students who may struggle to speak up without visual support. Being able to physically see their ideas displayed helped students make connections and increased their confidence in presenting and explaining their work.\r\n\r\nWe are also grateful for the coconut water provided. From unpacking the picker uppers, to designing our hats and then to walking to the local park and neighborhood to collect trash. We filled 12 trash bags! Additionally, I believe for most of our student, they now see how throwing litter in the can is important. We will continue to learn so that it's also about reducing our use of single-use plastics as well. One step at a time. \r\n\r\nLast, to donors like you, this project has a resonating affect. Our students now have a community service project they can add to their resumes and job/college applications.
