When the boxes of new materials arrived for our RTI Block, the atmosphere in the classroom was electric. One student even asked, \"Is this all for us?\" Seeing their faces light up made it clear that these resources aren't just tools—they are a message to my students that their community believes in their potential. They love playing games and these help the students not even realize they are learning while having fun.\r\n\r\nWe have been using these resources daily during our small-group intervention time. For example, we use the cvc word popits all the time. This helps my students become more confident in their ability to wound out and blend words together. One of my students, who usually struggles with confidence, was so engaged with the colorful, hands-on materials that they were able to finally start blending cvc words together. It was a breakthrough moment that wouldn't have been possible without the specific, engaging items you provided.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are moving into a new unit focused on building reading fluency and mathematical reasoning. These resources will allow my students to continue practicing these essential skills through independent centers and guided play. The children love using the shape punchers because many young children love exploring with items that show a cause and effect. Initially they would punch out shapes repeatedly and end there because of their short attention span. However, as time progressed and their ability to attend to tasks and be more intentional in their activities, they have begun to use the different shapes to create larger pictures. We are then supporting them to make these into books using the other materials. \r\nThe students were extremely excited to see the storytelling materials that arrived. Preschoolers have a difficult time sitting, especially in large groups, as they are easily distracted. The storytelling materials that were received through the donation allow me to engage an entire group of 20 preschoolers in a meaningful way. \r\nThe materials provided the children with varied experiences to engage in storytelling. The students will continue to develop language and early literacy skills by working with the items gained through the donation that provided initial and foundational experiences. When centers are done, the students easily clean up and return all the materials to each bin. It's that easy!\r\n\r\nNow that we're organized for our math centers, sky's the limit! The students planned their puppet with a sketch, and they used the first studio day to create the mouths and eyes. The next time they worked on their puppets, they added many personal details like hair, clothing, and decorations. Everyone in the four classes got very excited and started to use their puppets to interact with each other. They were very grateful and happy that they got to take these sock puppets home to keep as their own. \r\nNow other grade levels have asked if they can do sock puppets, too. We are grateful and really put both drying racks to good use. The wall clock has also been a wonderful help. I used to have to pull out my phone to check the time at the start and end of every class, and during the class to give students a heads up on how many minutes are left to do art before clean up. Time is one of our biggest challenges, along with supplies, space, and organizing.
