We've hit some technical hiccups along the way, and I'm still working out which software gives us the smoothest collaboration and the best writing experience for math work. That exploration is worth it: even in these early stages, I've seen real engagement from students whenever the tablets come out.\r\n\r\nFor students, math often lives in a narrow set of tools — pencil, paper, textbook, notebook, maybe a calculator or a computer. The tablets give them another way to show their thinking in writing, but with the ability to erase, undo, or move things around in the space, especially for problems that benefit from in-depth written work, drawing or visualizing. I'm introducing them a little at a time so they become a natural part of our toolkit rather than a novelty, and my plan is to build them into our \"Problem of the Week\" routine, where I think they'll shine.\r\n\r\nAll of the students were intrigued, but the students who love drawing and sketching were immediately ecstatic — \"So cool!\" was a phrase I heard more than once the first time the tablets came out. I chose to let them just draw for a while the first day, because I have so many students who love to sketch, in fact, more than at any point in my teaching career, for whatever reason. I enjoy giving students these tools and letting them see what the technology can do beyond just mathematical symbols.
