Thanks to you, the students have everything they need to turn their big ideas into reality. The highlight so far was our giant solar system banner. Students came up with the theme and used the new paints and supplies to create a banner that they actually carried while they ran in our fundraising Fun Run! \r\n The biggest impact to date is seeing how students feel so accomplished with their work. One student even wrote about it in her personal narrative writing. The introductory paragraph started this way: \"Scribble, scribble, scribble. Have you ever drawn on a flag for a fundraiser at your school? Well I have and it was so much fun! I always wanted to make my class flag because I would see other classes have a flag that had a drawing and I saw people draw stuff on it and it looked fun! Finally this year 2026 I would be able to!\"\r\n In addition to promoting creativity, our classroom feels more organized and inspiring. Using the binders, folders, labels, and lamination help students display their work. The kids love seeing their work look so official and protected. Having enough tape and folders means we can focus on being creative instead of worrying about how to put things together. Your support helped make this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1771683894652,"projectUrl":"project/the-art-of-the-matter/10103331/","projectTitle":"The \"Art\" of the Matter","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7930182_orig.png?crop=508,508,x0,y22&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1627540397714","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7930182"},{"teacherId":9973379,"projectId":10103211,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom through DonorsChoose. Your generosity has truly made a difference for my students, and we are so grateful for the thoughtful supplies you helped provide.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the new materials, we have already begun using many of them during our daily classroom routines. The desk dividers have been especially helpful during tests and independent work time. They give students their own quiet space to focus, which helps them feel more confident and comfortable while they work. The polymer erasers have also been a wonderful addition. Students love how cleanly they erase without leaving smudges or tearing their paper, which helps them keep their work neat and encourages them to try again when they make mistakes.\r\n\r\nAnother helpful resource has been the label maker. We've been using it to organize classroom supplies and materials so students can easily find what they need and return items to the correct place. Having clear labels has made our classroom feel more organized and student-friendly.\r\n\r\nThe biggest excitement in our classroom has been the Afmat electric pencil sharpener! When students first saw it, they were amazed by the fully automatic \"drop-in\" feature that feeds and sharpens their pencil in seconds, then automatically ejects it when finished. It quickly became a favorite classroom tool, and students love watching it in action while enjoying perfectly sharpened pencils for their writing and drawing.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are especially excited to use the canvas boards and cardstock paper for upcoming art projects. These materials will allow students to explore their creativity and take pride in creating more durable and polished pieces of artwork. We look forward to incorporating these supplies into future lessons that combine creativity with the skills we are learning in class.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped make our classroom a more organized, focused, and engaging place for students to learn. They love the hands on activities!\r\nThe students are already head over heels for the new counseling games, which have become an instant favorite for building rapport and practicing social skills. Additionally, the hands-on activities and sensory items have proven to be vital assets in our sessions. These tools provide a safe, tactile outlet for students to regulate their emotions and manage stress, directly supporting their social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Your support has made a meaningful difference in our students' daily learning experience. The iPad and Apple Pencil are powerful tools that allow students to practice skills in interactive ways—whether they are annotating texts, solving math problems step-by-step, creating digital projects, or receiving immediate feedback through learning apps. Technology in our classroom isn't just about screen time; it's about giving students new ways to show their thinking, revise their work, and engage more deeply with content. The ability to write directly on the screen with the Apple Pencil has been especially helpful for students who benefit from hands-on, visual learning.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is how personal and creative the learning feels. They love being able to brainstorm, sketch ideas, highlight text, and organize their thoughts digitally. For some of my more hesitant writers, the iPad has reduced the frustration that can come with erasing and rewriting on paper. I've seen students who typically give minimal responses become more willing to expand their thinking when typing or writing digitally. The games have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom. Spoons and Trouble provide structured brain breaks that build social skills, teamwork, and positive peer interactions while giving students a chance to reset and refocus.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who struggle with attention or confidence have especially warmed to this new technology. The interactive features keep them engaged, and the brain break games offer them a safe space to practice patience, turn-taking, and good sportsmanship. During our first day with the table, a shy student who normally avoids group activity asked to join, and by the end of the session was coaching a peer through keeping score. That moment showed me the table isn't just recreation — it's a powerful tool for building confidence and empathy.\r\n\r\nThe new chair and side table have created a calm, private conferencing spot for restorative chats and small-group check-ins. Students were excited and proud when they first saw the setup; they immediately respected the space and lined up for short goal-setting meetings. Next, we'll blend the ping pong SEL routines into a quarter-long unit: students will set personal teamwork goals, collect simple self-reflection data after each session, and present growth stories to the class. Engagement - students are always excited by electronics and somehow it inherently gets them more involved and interested in the tasks for the test. Innovation - the test company has created new ways to ask questions an having a digital version brings better graphics and a more interactive testing situation. The resources you provided through DonorsChoose have truly transformed our learning environment, and I cannot thank you enough.\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students' excitement was contagious. Their eyes lit up as we opened package after package together. The moment they saw the vibrant Kwik Stix paint sets, there were gasps of delight. \"Are those really for us?\" one student asked in wonder.\r\n The Orton-Gillingham reading materials have been particularly meaningful. Several of my struggling readers gathered around as I unpacked the lesson plan books, and I could see a mixture of hope and determination on their faces. These students have worked so hard, and now they have the specialized tools they need to succeed. The Orton-Gillingham materials now anchor our reading intervention sessions, providing systematic, multisensory instruction for students with dyslexia and reading challenges.\r\nWe've already put the art supplies to wonderful use in our winter-themed lessons. Students have created stunning mountain landscapes with geometric trees using the Kwik Stix paints, acrylic paints, markers, and construction paper. As they work, they're exploring concepts of shape, pattern, and color theory while developing fine motor skills and creative expression. The base ten blocks have also been invaluable, helping students visualize math concepts and build confidence with place value and number sense.\r\n Your generosity has given my students more than supplies—you've given them confidence, joy, and tools for success. Every time a student picks up a Kwik Stix to create, uses manipulatives to solve a math problem, or works through a reading lesson with renewed confidence, they benefit from your kindness.\r\n Thank you for believing in my students and investing in their education. Thank you for supporting our project, \"Speaking, Creating, and Learning: Resources for EL Success.\" Because of your kindness, our English Learners (EL students) now have amazing tools in their hands. These tools are changing the way they learn, talk to others, and feel about themselves every single day. Your help has made a real difference in our classroom that will last for a long time. We are so happy and grateful for your help.\r\n\r\nMost people use technology like tablets or phones at home for fun. But in our school, technology has a very special job, especially for students who are just starting to learn English. The iPad 11s you helped us buy are not just toys or gadgets. We like to think of them as bridges. They help our students get from \"not understanding\" to \"knowing.\" For a student who is still learning English, these iPads let them practice in a way that feels safe. They don't have to worry about making a mistake in front of the whole class.\r\n\r\nOn the iPads, students can listen to someone speaking English as many times as they need. They can record their own voices and listen back to see how they sound. If they don't understand a direction the first time, they can hit \"replay\" and try again. This is so helpful for kids who are shy or who need a little more time to think. It takes away the \"scary\" part of learning a new language.\r\n\r\nWe also love how these tools help kids learn in different ways. Some kids are good at talking, but others are better at drawing or making videos. With these iPads, a student can show us they understand a lesson by drawing a picture, typing a sentence, or even making a small movie. This is very important for English Learners. Sometimes, a student knows exactly what the answer is, but they just don't have the English words to say it yet. Now, they can show us what they know using pictures and sound.\r\n\r\nThe whiteboards and art supplies you gave us work perfectly with the iPads. The students use the whiteboards to scribble down their ideas or practice writing words by hand. They use the markers and paper to plan out what they want to do on the screen. It is a great mix of high-tech tools and hands-on learning. It makes our classroom feel like a place where learning is fun and full of joy.\r\n\r\nThe thing that makes the students most excited is being able to create things. They love using the iPads to make drawings and record their voices. For many of them, this is the first time they have felt really proud of their schoolwork. They can express who they are without the language barrier getting in the way. They aren't as scared to try new things anymore. They are excited to come to class and ready to participate. Even when they make a mistake, they just try again.\r\n\r\nWe have seen big changes in our quietest students. We have some students who used to never speak at all because they were too nervous. Now, those same students are using the iPads to record themselves practicing English words. One student used to never raise their hand in class. But with the iPad, they started recording short answers. They practiced over and over until it sounded right. Finally, they felt brave enough to share their work with the rest of the class. It was a huge moment for all of us.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than just buy \"stuff.\" You gave our students a voice. You gave them a chance to grow and feel confident. Every time a student picks up an iPad or uses a whiteboard, they are benefiting from your kindness. Thank you for believing in our students and helping them succeed. Your generosity is something we will never forget.","fullyFundedDate":1759418159441,"projectUrl":"project/speaking-creating-and-learning-resou/9774181/","projectTitle":"\"Speaking, Creating, and Learning: Resources for EL Success\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kaneshiro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9369384"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59887","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":623,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":15,"percentAsian":30,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.0,"schoolId":59887,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mililani Mauka Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mililani Mauka Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/hawaii/central-oahu-school-district/mililani-mauka-elementary-school/59887"}
