The iPad and related accessories (case and pencil) may seem like a tiny piece of electronic equipment, but it single handedly brought a test we administer to whole different level. With this iPad, we now have a new approach to our testing in three ways: engagement, innovation, and modality. Engagement - students are always excited by electronics and somehow it inherently gets them more involved and interested in the tasks for the test. Innovation - the test company has created new ways to ask questions an having a digital version brings better graphics and a more interactive testing situation. Modality - this new approach takes testing beyond paper and pencil tests and helps in so many ways with better analyses of scoring based on responses! So while this may seem like a small item, it brings so many benefits that we are so appreciative of!","fullyFundedDate":1759233852142,"projectUrl":"project/testing-with-technology/9773317/","projectTitle":"Testing with Technology","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Miyagi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8827788"},{"teacherId":7932128,"projectId":9773987,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donations so that my students can have tools to use in the classroom. The resources you provided through DonorsChoose have truly transformed our learning environment, and I cannot thank you enough.\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students' excitement was contagious. Their eyes lit up as we opened package after package together. The moment they saw the vibrant Kwik Stix paint sets, there were gasps of delight. \"Are those really for us?\" one student asked in wonder.\r\n The Orton-Gillingham reading materials have been particularly meaningful. Several of my struggling readers gathered around as I unpacked the lesson plan books, and I could see a mixture of hope and determination on their faces. These students have worked so hard, and now they have the specialized tools they need to succeed. The Orton-Gillingham materials now anchor our reading intervention sessions, providing systematic, multisensory instruction for students with dyslexia and reading challenges.\r\nWe've already put the art supplies to wonderful use in our winter-themed lessons. Students have created stunning mountain landscapes with geometric trees using the Kwik Stix paints, acrylic paints, markers, and construction paper. As they work, they're exploring concepts of shape, pattern, and color theory while developing fine motor skills and creative expression. The base ten blocks have also been invaluable, helping students visualize math concepts and build confidence with place value and number sense.\r\n Your generosity has given my students more than supplies—you've given them confidence, joy, and tools for success. Every time a student picks up a Kwik Stix to create, uses manipulatives to solve a math problem, or works through a reading lesson with renewed confidence, they benefit from your kindness.\r\n Thank you for believing in my students and investing in their education. Thank you for supporting our project, \"Speaking, Creating, and Learning: Resources for EL Success.\" Because of your kindness, our English Learners (EL students) now have amazing tools in their hands. These tools are changing the way they learn, talk to others, and feel about themselves every single day. Your help has made a real difference in our classroom that will last for a long time. We are so happy and grateful for your help.\r\n\r\nMost people use technology like tablets or phones at home for fun. But in our school, technology has a very special job, especially for students who are just starting to learn English. The iPad 11s you helped us buy are not just toys or gadgets. We like to think of them as bridges. They help our students get from \"not understanding\" to \"knowing.\" For a student who is still learning English, these iPads let them practice in a way that feels safe. They don't have to worry about making a mistake in front of the whole class.\r\n\r\nOn the iPads, students can listen to someone speaking English as many times as they need. They can record their own voices and listen back to see how they sound. If they don't understand a direction the first time, they can hit \"replay\" and try again. This is so helpful for kids who are shy or who need a little more time to think. It takes away the \"scary\" part of learning a new language.\r\n\r\nWe also love how these tools help kids learn in different ways. Some kids are good at talking, but others are better at drawing or making videos. With these iPads, a student can show us they understand a lesson by drawing a picture, typing a sentence, or even making a small movie. This is very important for English Learners. Sometimes, a student knows exactly what the answer is, but they just don't have the English words to say it yet. Now, they can show us what they know using pictures and sound.\r\n\r\nThe whiteboards and art supplies you gave us work perfectly with the iPads. The students use the whiteboards to scribble down their ideas or practice writing words by hand. They use the markers and paper to plan out what they want to do on the screen. It is a great mix of high-tech tools and hands-on learning. It makes our classroom feel like a place where learning is fun and full of joy.\r\n\r\nThe thing that makes the students most excited is being able to create things. They love using the iPads to make drawings and record their voices. For many of them, this is the first time they have felt really proud of their schoolwork. They can express who they are without the language barrier getting in the way. They aren't as scared to try new things anymore. They are excited to come to class and ready to participate. Even when they make a mistake, they just try again.\r\n\r\nWe have seen big changes in our quietest students. We have some students who used to never speak at all because they were too nervous. Now, those same students are using the iPads to record themselves practicing English words. One student used to never raise their hand in class. But with the iPad, they started recording short answers. They practiced over and over until it sounded right. Finally, they felt brave enough to share their work with the rest of the class. It was a huge moment for all of us.\r\n\r\nYour donation did more than just buy \"stuff.\" You gave our students a voice. You gave them a chance to grow and feel confident. Every time a student picks up an iPad or uses a whiteboard, they are benefiting from your kindness. Thank you for believing in our students and helping them succeed. Your generosity is something we will never forget.","fullyFundedDate":1759418159441,"projectUrl":"project/speaking-creating-and-learning-resou/9774181/","projectTitle":"\"Speaking, Creating, and Learning: Resources for EL Success\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kaneshiro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9369384"},{"teacherId":8824009,"projectId":9775594,"letterContent":"When my students saw the movable whiteboards, they were excited and wanted to use them right away. Your generous support has already made a clear and joyful difference in how my students learn and work together.\r\n\r\nFrom the very first day, the whiteboards have transformed our classroom into a lively hub of collaboration. When students split into small groups for projects, the whiteboards become a shared workspace where ideas flow freely. I watch students take turns sketching plans, labeling diagrams, and debating solutions—each board serving as a visible record of their thinking. That collaboration builds communication skills, encourages peer teaching, and creates a sense of shared ownership over learning that is difficult to achieve with individual worksheets alone.\r\n\r\nBeyond group projects, the whiteboards have become essential for reviewing concepts across subject areas. In math, students work out problems step by step and compare different solution strategies so classmates can see multiple approaches to the same task. Students who also were able to get the answer correct on a homework assignment, can now become the teacher and instruct their classmates, step-by-step, to the correct answer. In writing, groups brainstorm story ideas, organize paragraphs with quick outlines, and map character traits. Science lessons come alive when students sketch diagrams, predict outcomes, and annotate experiments in real time. Even in social studies, timelines and concept maps drawn on the boards help students make connections between events and ideas. The flexibility of the whiteboards lets us move smoothly between subjects while keeping students actively engaged.\r\n\r\nThese visual learning opportunities are especially valuable because they support visible thinking. When students draw, write, and rearrange ideas on a board, their thought processes become tangible. I can see not only the final answer but the reasoning that led there—what misconceptions remain, which steps were skipped, and where a group needs a nudge. That visibility allows me to conduct quick, informal assessments as learning happens, rather than relying solely on tests or homework to measure understanding. I can overhear discussions, glance at boards as groups present, and offer targeted feedback in the moment. This immediate insight helps me prioritize support where it will make the biggest impact.\r\n\r\nEqually important, the students genuinely enjoy using the whiteboards. Their enthusiasm is contagious: groups get excited to tackle problems together, students volunteer to lead demonstrations, and shy learners often find it easier to contribute when ideas can be drawn instead of spoken. The boards invite risk-taking and experimentation in a low-stakes format, which leads to deeper learning and more confidence in class participation.\r\n\r\nThank you again for providing tools that enrich both instruction and student experience. The whiteboards have quickly become indispensable—boosting collaboration, enhancing cross-curricular review, promoting visual thinking, and enabling on-the-spot assessment.
