The classroom is always filled with smiles and excitement when students get a chance to play.\r\n\r\nThe Chinese scrolls and calligraphy brushes and ink are used during our culture lessons. Students practice traditional Chinese calligraphy while learning the meaning behind each character. Student were very excited and proud of their work.\r\n\r\nTo celebrate Chinese New Year, we used the quick-cook tapioca to make and share boba together in class. Cooking and sharing food as a class made the celebration very special and memorable. The iPad gives students access to digital-art apps where they experiment with color, composition, and typography — skills that translate directly to theatre design, graphic arts, and product creation. Paired with our Cricut machine, designs the students create on the iPad become tangible: we've used student artwork to design colorful, theatre‑themed tote bags with iron‑on vinyl. This workflow teaches them the full creative cycle — ideation, digital design, file preparation for cutting, and final production — while building technical confidence and problem‑solving skills.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is seeing their work scaled up and shared with the school community. With the projector, digital pieces are enlarged and projected onto our stage backdrop so students can paint large‑scale set elements and create set signs for our musical, In The Heights. Watching a design they drew on a tablet become a backdrop that transforms our stage makes the arts feel powerful and professional to them. Several students who were previously hesitant about traditional studio art have taken to digital design immediately; students who prefer working with technology — including those who find fine motor tasks challenging — are now leaders in set and merchandise design, contributing original artwork and directing production decisions.\r\n\r\nThanks to donors like you, our program blends artistic expression with contemporary tools, giving students hands‑on experience in design, collaboration, and production. Your gift makes it possible for young artists to learn technical skills, build pride in their creations, and help bring our In The Heights production to life in vivid, student‑designed color.","fullyFundedDate":1759577051980,"projectUrl":"project/icreate-projecting-art-one-stage-at-a/9780845/","projectTitle":"iCreate: Projecting Art, One Stage at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Geneva","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9167185_orig.jpg?crop=2027,2027,x1060,y288&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700164083477","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9167185"},{"teacherId":8974561,"projectId":9774422,"letterContent":"We are writing to express our sincere gratitude for your generous donation of colored pencil organizers. Students have begun to explore what each tile represents and have started to apply the algebra tile model to performing integer operations and solving linear equations.\r\n\r\nSome students were familiar with algebra tiles and found the activities to be good refreshers. Some students found the algebra tiles to be foreign, but those students began to witness the true power of the algebra tiles. Allowing students to work in pairs helped a lot of my students explore first, then formalize the concepts after. In addition, the algebra tiles allowed students to carry out algebraic manipulations without the struggle of knowing arithmetic math facts. Students saw the benefit of the tiles as physical representations of what they were doing in their heads.\r\n\r\nBecause this was my first time seeing how students react to algebra tiles, my algebra classes will continue to explore this model in the second half of the school year as we start to talk about quadratic equations and expressions. My students were thrilled with the various activities we were able to complete with the supplies like construction paper, modeling clay, colored pencils and markers, pipe cleaners, and suturing pads. The most memorable project that we completed during our unit on the integumentary system was the suturing lab - all thanks to the materials provided by Donors Choose! For the lab, students first practiced \"stitching\" an injury with the pipe cleaners and string provided by your donation. After the practice round, they used the medical-grade sutures, artificial skin pad, and suturing needle to try out their suturing skills on the simulated skin injuries. The activity was a hit - it helped wrap up our key concepts on the layers of the epidermis & dermis, along with providing students with technical skills practice they might need if they pursue careers in health or medicine.\r\n\r\nNext semester, we will continue to use the arts & craft supplies as we cover topics like the muscular and nervous system. With these topics, students will build models of the contraction cycle and nerve pathways. A new camera is incredibly expensive, and it has already made some significant changes to our photography department. My students are always excited to use it, and when they're passionate, as you know, that's when the real magic of learning happens.\r\n\r\nThis technology helps my students learn because they can be hands on with the camera. When I teach them about storytelling through images, they can actually try out techniques for themselves, using technology that isn't in need of updating.\r\n\r\nA new camera took up the bulk of the funds from this project, but I was also able to request an audio recorder pen and a lot of red pens for proofreading. As a high schooler, interviewing peers and adults can be incredibly nerve-wracking, and prior to this student reporters would use their phone to record an interview. The recorder pen is useful because it is small and unobtrusive, so my reporters can focus on getting their quote, and their interviewee can focus on talking. It also has speech to text capabilities, which means that students can get extra help with their transcriptions, resulting in faster and more accurate stories.\r\n\r\nI am able to accomplish so much in my teaching because of this new technology. Running a newspaper teaches students so many skills like collaboration, effective communication, and problem-solving, and these tools help writers, photographers, and editors get their work done efficiently and thoroughly.","fullyFundedDate":1759446612623,"projectUrl":"project/capture-the-moment/9772518/","projectTitle":"Capture the Moment!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Reyes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9805604"},{"teacherId":8364602,"projectId":9772941,"letterContent":"This laptop has become an essential tool for hands-on learning in our engineering programs.
