As you can see from our pictures, the LCD microscopes and Scotch tape will go a long way in enhancing our students' learning experiences. The LCD microscopes will continue to support our diverse learners by giving them the opportunity to closely observe and study organisms and their habitats in a more engaging and meaningful way. Through these experiences, students are able to build stronger connections and relationships with the living things around them and develop a deeper sense of care for our ʻāina. We hope to inspire our students to recognize that they can make a difference and understand the urgency of making a positive impact on the environment around us.\r\n\r\nThe Scotch tape we received as part of the donation also plays an important role in helping students organize lab worksheets and materials in their science notebooks. Their science notebook becomes a toolkit they can continue to use beyond high school, helping them develop valuable writing, organization, and note-taking skills that will support them in their future education and careers.\r\n\r\nHere at Mililani High School, we pride ourselves on providing place-based and hands-on learning opportunities for our students. They could not wait to use the dry erase boards, and many students were smiling and eager to participate. The fidget toys quickly became a favorite classroom tool, and students have been using them responsibly to help stay engaged during lessons.\r\n\r\nAs we continue learning this year, these materials will help students stay active and involved in classroom activities. The students are using the rotating book carousel for our classroom library books, so it is easier for them to browse through to find a reading book to begin class. They are using the journals to do responses and note-taking during class. They are using the post-it chart paper to do group activities to collaborate on their ideas from the novel we just finished. They are using the snacks as incentives in our competitive games and as a way to get a little bit of energy after state testing. They were very appreciative of all of the supplies, so that they have what they need for their activities. They especially enjoyed the snacks, since lots of them are hungry before they have their lunch period.\r\n\r\nThe post-it chart paper was especially used when we did an activity in which students find quotations to show how the characters in the novel demonstrate themes from the novel. They used the chart paper to organize the character names and add evidence from the novel so that they could do a carousel activity in which they walked around the room to add character names and evidence to various chart papers with different themes on them. It was a good kinesthetic and collaborative activity for them to share their understanding of the novel's characters and its themes.\r\n\r\nThe next steps is for students to finish their final essays using ideas from their post-it chart paper activity. We already had a Socratic Seminar discussion utilizing some of the themes and evidence from the chart paper activity. I look forward to using these supplies for next year and to refine the lessons to engage students in their learning process.","fullyFundedDate":1771647338243,"projectUrl":"project/essentials-for-student-success/10107360/","projectTitle":"Essentials for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aea","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10295824"},{"teacherId":9976044,"projectId":10103757,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom popcorn machine project! Your support allowed us to stock up on chart paper for more flexibility in learning activities in the classroom that are not always possible when budget limits purchasing options.\r\n\r\nIn a push to be more student-centered and offer greater voice and choice, the literature organizer and stackable inbox trays will be greatly useful in providing systematized access to a variety of learning materials. I want students to have more ownership of their learning and classroom experiences and I want to promote reflection and good decision-making. Being able to offer a standing option of learning resources for students to take what they need will be advantageous in promoting those goals. Now that students can have a predictable station and system, my hope is that they will develop greater ownership and autonomy in learning.\r\n\r\nFinally, the utility cart is for the benefit of my club kids. We have the largest club on campus with 217 members, a group rivaled in size only by our marching band. Your contribution has already begun to transform the way my students engage with their education. Art is so much more than just a dedicated subject; it is a vital tool that helps students learn by allowing them to visualize complex concepts, improve their focus, and approach problem-solving from new and innovative angles. Because of your support, they now have the tangible materials they need to bring their ideas to life and connect with their coursework on a much deeper level.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, these supplies have opened up a vibrant world of creativity for my students. Having access to high-quality paints, brushes, canvases, and drawing materials gives them the freedom to experiment and discover their unique voices. In a world that constantly asks them to follow instructions, a blank canvas offers them a rare space where their imagination is the only limit. Watching them proudly create, mix colors, and express themselves in ways they often cannot with words alone has been truly inspiring, and it is entirely thanks to your investment in their potential.\r\n\r\nFinally, I want to emphasize how much of a sanctuary this artistic expression provides for these young minds. School can often be a high-pressure environment, but having the opportunity to create art serves as a profound stress reliever. It gives them a safe, therapeutic outlet to process their emotions, unwind, and find joy in the simple act of making something beautiful. Your generosity has provided them with far more than just paper and paint; you have given them a creative refuge. This appliance is so much more than just a place to keep things cold; for my students, it is the heartbeat of our culinary projects and the missing puzzle piece for our year-long \"Kalo Challenge.\"\r\n\r\nThrough our Kalo Challenge, my students have been getting their hands dirty, literally by planting, cultivating, and harvesting kalo (taro). The goal of the project is to develop original recipes that utilize every part of the plant, from the corm to the stem and leaves.\r\n\r\nBefore we had the full sized refrigerator, we had to borrow space from other classrooms. Just last week, the students harvested a beautiful batch of kalo corms and delicate lūʻau (kalo leaves). They were able to properly clean and safely store their harvest in the new freezer section. While we had room in the refrigerator for our other ingredients and fresh herbs we harvested from our hydroponic garden. Having a safe, reliable place to store our fresh harvest and rest our recipe batters has completely elevated the quality of their culinary education.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students are dreaming bigger. Our students have finalized their original recipes from this year and the year before and compile them into a student-authored cookbook and Kalo Library booklet. To celebrate the end of the year, we are planning a to cook laulau with the students so that they can eat the food created from their hard work. Thanks to our new refrigerator, the students will be able to prep their dishes in advance, chill their ingredients safely, and serve their incredible kalo creations to our school community with immense pride.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students, for investing in their hands-on education, and for giving us the essential tools we needed to see this project through. When the materials first arrived, the students were genuinely impressed by the technology; there was a palpable sense of excitement as they realized they would finally be able to see the nuances of my demonstrations in high definition without having to strain for a clear view. It has created a much more focused and professional atmosphere where every student feels equally supported in their learning.\r\n\r\nWe hit the ground running by using the camera to dive into complex watercolor techniques. Because watercolor is so dependent on the \"wetness\" of the paper and the subtle movement of pigment, being able to project these live demonstrations onto the big screen was a game-changer. This was especially impactful during our abstract watercolor unit, where students were able to observe exactly how much water to use to create specific blooms and textures. The clarity of the camera allowed them to master these techniques with confidence, which translated directly into the high quality of their abstract pieces.\r\n\r\nBuilding on that success, the camera has been an essential tool as students transitioned into their final watercolor projects. They have been able to revisit technical skills with precision, leading to some of the most sophisticated work I've seen this year. Our next steps involve using the camera for digital \"critique sessions,\" where we can zoom in on specific sections of their final projects to discuss composition and color theory as a group. The first thing they noticed was the air purifier running in the background and the difference the classroom felt after we used the new cleaning supplies. Several students commented that the room felt \"fresher\" and more comfortable to work in. As seniors balancing busy schedules with sports, jobs, and preparing for graduation, having a clean and welcoming classroom has helped create a calmer environment where they can focus and feel supported. The snacks have also become a meaningful way to celebrate participation, improvement, and hard work, which has boosted classroom morale and engagement.\r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out happened during a recent writing workshop for our senior advocacy projects. Normally, by the end of the day students are tired and distracted, but with the cleaner classroom environment and small snack incentives, students stayed focused longer, collaborated more positively, and took pride in their work. My students even volunteered to help keep the classroom clean and organized because they could see how much the environment had improved. It became more than just new supplies—it became a shared sense of responsibility and pride in our classroom community.\r\n\r\nAs we move into the final stretch of the school year, my students are continuing to work on projects that prepare them for life after high school, including argumentative writing, presentations, and career-readiness activities.
