The sensory table has become a favorite spot where students scoop, sort, and search for hidden shapes, strengthening focus and fine motor control while practicing early math skills. During one small group lesson, students used the low to the ground board to match shapes by color and size. One student who typically struggles to sit at a table was able to access the board comfortably on the floor and independently sort shapes with pride. Our musical books and instruments are part of literacy time, where students tap along to rhythms as we turn pages, building listening skills, turn taking, and expressive language.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the room filled with excitement. Students immediately gathered around the sensory table and eagerly explored the instruments, experimenting with different sounds and beats. There were smiles, laughter, and so much curiosity. Even quieter students found confidence through rhythm, shaking instruments and flipping through musical books with growing independence.\r\n\r\nNext, we are expanding our shape study by incorporating manipulatives into building challenges and collaborative projects. Students will create shape pictures, count sides and corners, and use descriptive language to explain their designs. We are also connecting music to movement, encouraging students to follow rhythms and express emotions through sound. These resources continue to support hands on learning, communication, and confidence as our special learners from military families grow academically and socially.","fullyFundedDate":1758857412865,"projectUrl":"project/shape-up-the-beat/9742881/","projectTitle":"Shape Up the Beat!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wolf","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8978035_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1678096534690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8978035"},{"teacherId":8978035,"projectId":9775274,"letterContent":"We are using our sensory tables and winter board books every day during small group and center rotations. During one winter exploration, students worked together to create a pretend snow scene, taking turns filling containers and counting scoops. At the literacy table, winter board books sparked meaningful conversations about weather, clothing, and feelings, expanding vocabulary and strengthening comprehension in a natural and engaging way.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They eagerly gathered around the sensory table, curious to touch and explore. Even students who are typically hesitant to join group activities were drawn in by the hands on experience. The winter stories created cozy moments of connection, with students asking to read them again and pointing out details in the pictures.\r\n\r\nNext, we are building on this momentum by connecting our winter stories to dramatic play, writing, and problem solving activities. Students are beginning to use sensory tools as calming strategies while also applying new vocabulary and math concepts in meaningful ways. These resources are creating a snowball effect of growth in academics, communication, cooperation, and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1759458834029,"projectUrl":"project/chill-skills-stories-and-sensory/9775274/","projectTitle":"Chill Skills Stories and Sensory","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wolf","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8978035_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1678096534690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8978035"},{"teacherId":9706598,"projectId":9785424,"letterContent":"First of all I would like to send and share a great big Aloha to all of you that have donated and made my dream for a science discovery area come true for my students! I have recently returned to teaching preschool special education and have done my best with the current resources that I have. This newest center addition has been a fabulous addition so my little friends can do what they do best at this age which is to explore!\r\nWith this science exploration center I have incorporated many fun and age appropriate activities and areas to explore. Some of the additions I have added on rotation include, magnets, life cycles, books that relate to the topics and current science theme, view finders, magnifying glasses, and sea creatures. I look forward over time to be able to add more to science center over time.\r\nOnce again, thank you all for your incredible and generous donations to make a science center dream come true for this teacher and my wonderful little explorers!","fullyFundedDate":1759630046046,"projectUrl":"project/science-and-sensory-for-curious-little-e/9785424/","projectTitle":"Science and Sensory for Curious Little Explorers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Broden","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9706598"},{"teacherId":10293625,"projectId":9772431,"letterContent":"My students in 3rd grade were so appreciative of your donation. One standout moment was during a guided lesson when a student who usually needs frequent prompting was able to complete the activity independently using the materials—his smile said everything.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new resources, they were excited and eager to use them right away. Several students asked if they could \"try it first,\" and others immediately began exploring how the materials worked. That excitement carried straight into learning; students were more focused, engaged, and confident during our lessons.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our next steps include using these materials to deepen comprehension, practice key skills, and build consistency across lessons. Students are learning how to select books that are a good fit for their interests and reading levels, read with purpose, and reflect thoughtfully on what they've read through discussion and written responses. These texts support both skill development and a growing love of reading.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is flexible, student-centered, and welcoming. With the addition of flexible seating, students are able to choose reading spaces where they feel most focused and comfortable. This choice has helped students increase reading stamina, remain engaged for longer periods of time, and take greater ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to stay engaged during reading time are especially enjoying the new books and seating options. I have seen students who once avoided reading now eagerly selecting books and remaining focused throughout reading block.
