These novels allow us to explicitly teach skills such as identifying theme, analyzing character traits, tracking character development, comparing perspectives, and citing text evidence. With Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, students explore author's craft, figurative language, and the consequences of choices. With Wonder, we dive deeply into point of view and empathy, examining how the same event can be understood differently depending on who is telling the story.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and engaging. Students annotate with highlighters, mark key vocabulary, and track important moments that reveal character change. They participate in thoughtful small-group discussions and write responses that require them to support their thinking with direct quotes. The laminating sheets have allowed us to create reusable discussion prompts, vocabulary tools, and anchor charts that students use daily, making our instruction more sustainable and interactive.\r\n\r\nSeveral students are especially thriving with these new books. Some who were once hesitant readers now feel confident because they have their own copy to annotate and interact with. Others have connected deeply with the themes of kindness and resilience in Wonder, sharing personal reflections and demonstrating greater empathy toward classmates. My students are using the playdough sets, building blocks, LEGOs, connect tiles, wooden play logs, and marble run during daily centers to strengthen problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills. One of our favorite moments so far was watching students work together to design structures and pathways, testing what worked, fixing what didn't, and proudly explaining their creations to classmates. These resources have turned learning into an engaging, meaningful experience where students are actively building both ideas and confidence.\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, the excitement was immediate and unforgettable. There were cheers, big smiles, and lots of \"I've never used this before!\" as they explored everything. They carefully touched each item, eager to build, create, and experiment. It was clear they felt proud knowing these materials were just for them, and that feeling of ownership made them even more invested in their learning time.\r\nBecause of your generosity, our next steps include using these materials to support upcoming lessons in math, engineering, and social skills. Students will continue working on planning, constructing, and revising their designs while practicing teamwork and communication.
