My second grade students are excited about attending school. Many of my students live in poverty and are learning English as a second language. My students come from different cultures and are learning to work together as a classroom community. They enjoy learning together on the carpet and participating in interactive activities that teach the basic skills and concepts they will use for the rest of their lives. In addition to the direct instruction that I provide in whole and small group settings, they learn from the environmental print that fills our classroom. There are currently 22 students in my classroom who are very active. The state has put a freeze on technology funds when integration of technology into the classroom is so important. These students are the future and they need to learn early on how to use technology to be successful lifelong learners.
