Although we have not yet begun reading Lei and the Fire Goddess and The Lemonade Crime, the excitement in our classroom is unmistakable. Students are eagerly awaiting the chance to dive into these stories—especially The Lemonade Crime, the sequel to a book they loved earlier this year. Lei and the Fire Goddess has sparked curiosity as well, as students look forward to seeing Hawaiian culture and traditions reflected in a novel that aligns closely with our 4th-grade curriculum.\r\n\r\nThanks to the materials provided, I am now able to design learning experiences that go far beyond traditional reading lessons. With The Lemonade Crime, I plan to transform our classroom into a real courtroom, complete with a judge, jury, prosecution, and defense teams. This mock trial will allow students to apply what they learn in the book, practice persuasive speaking, and collaborate in meaningful roles—building critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. Lei and the Fire Goddess will guide students in exploring cultural themes and mythology, culminating in each student writing a poem about a god or goddess of their choice and creating an art piece inspired by their writing.\r\n\r\nThe new carpet has also enhanced our physical learning environment, making it more welcoming, organized, and conducive to collaboration. These resources empower me to create a classroom where learning is interactive, culturally grounded, and deeply engaging. The heart of this change is the four rolling easels, which have revolutionized how my students learn. We've moved away from isolated desk work. Every day is now a dynamic experience where students stand, move, and work collaboratively on these vertical surfaces. Seeing them publicly tackle complex problems, brainstorm on the \"whiteboards,\" and then rotate to new challenges has fostered a level of engagement and critical thinking that simply wasn't possible before. With the abundance of new dry-erase markers and erasers, their ideas flow freely, encouraging productive dialogue and shared problem-solving—it's been an incredible shift toward active, cooperative learning.\r\n\r\nThe impact extends far beyond the easels, as your support ensured all our crucial learning tools are well-stocked. The replenishing of supplies like the Nimbot labels, laminating sheets, and printer ink means our classroom library and hands-on materials are always organized and durable. My students are thrilled to continue using the Magnatiles games for engineering challenges, the Anne of Green Gables graphic novel is very inviting to reluctant readers, and the Kodak instant film is a game-changer for documenting their project-based learning, giving them an immediate, tangible record of their hard work. Thank you for not just giving us supplies, but for investing in a mobile, collaborative, and richly resourced learning environment. Because of your kindness, my students are becoming confident, adaptable, and deeply engaged thinkers every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1759417455087,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-thinking-classroom/9774078/","projectTitle":"Building a Thinking Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Soma","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8975875"},{"teacherId":9791713,"projectId":9162838,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation! I just wanted to sincerely thank you for your donations and for also helping my students by providing the funds to allow all of them to participate in various classroom SEL activities with the supplies that you helped fund.\r\n\r\nFor the 2 pictures that I had sent with this letter, they were able to use their creativity and imagination in creating letters of appreciation as our SEL lesson was about showing Gratitude and being thankful for things and not to take things for granted. The students learned a lot with this SEL lesson of having Gratitude and I was fortunate that both of them showed Gratitude and appreciation for me as their school counselor. Please understand that I did not make them write a letter or appreciation for me. Lol. The topic was to have them write a letter of Gratitude, thanks, and appreciation to someone in their lives that they are grateful for. They could choose their parents, friends, family, teachers, or anyone that impacts their lives that they appreciate. I was very humbled and grateful to have received their letters showing gratitude for me as their counselor.\r\n\r\nI know that in leading by example, I am truly grateful to you, the donors, in helping us educators with donating funds to help provide the art supplies like papers, pens, pencils, and etc to allow the students to have fun in applying their creativity in their various SEL classroom activities.
