The students had to place the digits within the correct place value based on the position of the digit in the number. Once they had a good foundation, we went to adding and subtracting. We used the cuisenaire rods to give a visual of what is being added based on place value. Each color of the rods represented different values to be added. Not only that, the students also provided a visual of base 10 blocks to help them with the operations.\r\n\r\nThat's just a little bit of what happened in the classroom.
