I had an idea of how they could be used, but most importantly, I wanted students to be comfortable with using them in every aspect of their daily lives; to grant them access to experiences that have limited their success. When they go to fifth grade, they are expected to be more independent learners. The pens can be used to read books. However, my goal is not for them to depend on the technology to read for pleasure. They will continue improving their reading skills. The expectation is to use the reading pen to complete independent worksheets. Instead of the teacher being beside them reading and rereading directions, the students can use their pens to read the page. For matching questions, the students can read the list of choices as many times as needed to complete the page. The level of independency has been a game-changer!\r\n\r\nThe pens have many functions, but i was only focused on the basic function of reading. Students discovered and shared with me how to use the other functions. For example, when using a pen to read an unknown word, the pen will define the word. It also has a translation function with many languages represented. \r\n\r\nAll students are excited about using the new technology readers, but two students really appreciate using them regularly. The students are significantly below grade level in reading. One student is bilingual but has some difficulty with both languages. However, his listening comprehension is stronger than his reading skills. Using the pens to assist in reading tasks is important for him. Both students have been successful in using the pens as a tool, and they have not been a distraction in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746699667870,"projectUrl":"project/game-changing-reading-experiences/9254333/","projectTitle":"Game-Changing Reading Experiences","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Soria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6176445_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746662024665","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6176445"},{"teacherId":317770,"projectId":9052891,"letterContent":"Thanks to your donations, we were able to get this year off to a great start! So far we have had close to 73 students utilize the room since the completion! We are thrilled of the positive impact the room has already had. \r\n\r\nThe students who have spent time in the room so far have enjoyed sitting on the comfy floor seats, doing yoga on the area rug and even practicing their breathing while enjoying the warm lights and soft music.
