One moment that truly stood out was during a whole‑group discussion when students used the materials to support their ideas. Even my quietest students were raising their hands, pointing to details, and explaining their thinking with confidence. Seeing their pride and excitement reminded me how meaningful your support is.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students' faces lit up. They were eager, curious, and couldn't wait to explore. I heard comments like, \"This is so cool!\" and \"I can't wait to use this!\" Their enthusiasm set the tone for focused learning and rich conversations.\r\nYour generosity has helped my students feel like real scholars. Each of these items, though simple in nature, contributed in meaningful ways to improving student learning, focus, and the overall classroom environment.\r\n\r\nHeadphones were a game-changer, especially during independent work and digital learning activities. With multiple students working on online programs or assignments that involved audio, headphones allowed everyone to stay focused without being distracted by background noise. It created a quieter, more productive atmosphere during station work and assessments. Students who needed to listen to instructions, watch educational videos, or engage with interactive lessons could do so at their own pace without interrupting others. This especially benefited students with attention challenges or those who needed more individualized instruction, as they could focus more deeply with fewer distractions. Headphones also helped me manage small group instruction better, knowing the rest of the class was engaged and working independently.\r\n\r\nCalculators were equally impactful. They provided students with the tools they needed to tackle more complex math problems with confidence. I noticed that when students had access to calculators, they were less intimidated by multi-step problems and more willing to try challenging tasks. Rather than focusing on basic arithmetic errors, students could concentrate on understanding concepts, applying formulas, and analyzing problems—especially in topics like fractions, integers, proportions, and geometry. Calculators were also an essential support for students with learning differences, giving them equitable access to the curriculum and allowing them to participate more fully in class activities and assessments. As a teacher, I was able to push students into deeper problem-solving because they had the right tools to support them.\r\n\r\nFinally, the bulletin board rolls brought life and inspiration to our classroom environment. With them, I was able to create colorful, themed bulletin boards that showcased student work, learning goals, vocabulary, anchor charts, and seasonal displays. This not only made the classroom more welcoming but also supported visual learners who benefited from having constant access to reference materials on the walls. Students took pride in seeing their work displayed, which motivated them to put more effort into assignments. I also used the bulletin boards to celebrate student success, which helped foster a sense of community and belonging. Throughout the year, the boards evolved to reflect what we were learning, turning our walls into an interactive learning space that students referred to often.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources—headphones, calculators, and bulletin rolls—helped me create a classroom that was focused, supportive, and student-centered. They gave students the tools they needed to engage with the material, express their understanding, and take pride in their learning environment. I'm incredibly grateful to have had access to these items, as they played a key role in helping my students grow academically and feel more connected to our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1675899810488,"projectUrl":"project/let-them-calculate/7180110/","projectTitle":"Let Them Calculate!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bevans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5620016_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588783661901","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ajokebevans"},{"teacherId":5620016,"projectId":6845155,"letterContent":"This year, adding simple tools like stickers, a drawing tablet, and a digital wall clock to my classroom made a noticeable difference in both student engagement and classroom management.\r\n\r\nOne of the first changes I noticed came from using stickers as part of our classroom reward system. I began handing them out for things like participation, showing improvement, staying on task, or helping a classmate. The response from students was immediate and enthusiastic. Even older students responded positively—they would proudly display their stickers on notebooks or water bottles. Some began trying harder just for the chance to earn one. It wasn't about the sticker itself, but the recognition that came with it. It boosted student morale, especially for those who needed a little extra encouragement, and it helped build a more positive and motivated classroom culture.\r\n\r\nThe drawing tablet became one of our favorite tools. I used it frequently during lessons to model math problems, annotate texts, and draw diagrams in real time while projecting them to the class. Students found it much easier to follow along with step-by-step examples when I could write and draw clearly on the tablet. But even more impactful was when students got the chance to use it themselves. They enjoyed solving problems or illustrating their ideas digitally and sharing them with the class. It gave my visual and artistic learners a new way to shine, and it supported students who sometimes struggled to express themselves through traditional methods. I saw more engagement, more creativity, and stronger participation, especially during collaborative activities.\r\n\r\nThe digital wall clock had a surprisingly big impact on how smoothly our day ran. Before we had it, students would frequently ask how much time was left, especially during tests or independent work. With the new clock in place—large, easy to read, and visible from anywhere in the room—those questions nearly disappeared. Students became more aware of pacing during timed tasks, and transitions between activities improved because they could see and manage their own time more effectively. It gave them more independence and helped reduce classroom disruptions. I also found it helpful when planning and managing lesson timing throughout the day.\r\n\r\nEach of these tools may seem small, but together they contributed to a more productive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. They met a range of student needs—from motivation and creativity to organization and independence—and made our classroom feel more responsive and student-centered. These additions didn't just make my teaching easier; they helped my students feel seen, capable, and more connected to the learning process. I'm truly grateful we had them this year—they made a meaningful difference.","fullyFundedDate":1663692829716,"projectUrl":"project/managed-classrooms-today-helps-keep-t/6845155/","projectTitle":"\"Managed Classrooms\" Today, Helps Keep the Atmosphere at Bay!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bevans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5620016_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1588783661901","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ajokebevans"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47948","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":996,"numTeachers":80,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":47948,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hesse K-8 School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hesse K-8 School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/savannah-chatham-county-school-district/hesse-elementary-school/47948"}
