Through Reader's Theater, students are using scripts, props, and performance to build fluency, confidence, collaboration, and a genuine love of reading. They have been practicing partner scripts and using props to connect the words on the page to meaningful actions, transforming reading into an active and engaging experience. Students especially enjoyed wearing masks to become their characters and acting out the events and emotions within each scene. As they rehearse, collaborate, and perform for their classmates, students are developing greater confidence, expression, and ownership of their reading. This experience has already helped them see that reading is more than a skill. It is a way to step into new worlds, experience stories, connect with others, and bring words to life!\r\n\r\nThe students were absolutely thrilled to receive the donated materials and were eager to share their excitement and gratitude with their donors! The new props and materials, especially the LEGO sets, have sparked even greater interest and enthusiasm for reading. Students are more motivated to practice their parts because they are excited to move to the next level by using props to bring their stories and characters to life. They are becoming more engaged in learning about dialogue, expression, and character development while discovering that reading and writing can be creative, hands-on experiences. Most importantly, the donated materials have inspired students to imagine, create, perform, and build. \r\n\r\nTheir creativity has extended beyond Reader's Theater, with students now wanting to write their own scripts and incorporate props such as LEGO phones, computers, and cameras into their scenes. Our next step is to give students the opportunity to become authors, directors, actors, and set designers as they create their own Reader's Theater productions. Students will work collaboratively to develop original scripts with engaging dialogue, strong characters, and clear settings, while selecting and designing props that enhance their storytelling. They simply cannot wait to see what they can bring to life next!","fullyFundedDate":1778422013585,"projectUrl":"project/step-into-the-story-readers-theater-in/10247557/","projectTitle":"Step Into the Story: Readers Theater in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. D’Amico","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5318398"},{"teacherId":1675829,"projectId":10183597,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for investing in our classroom and helping us bring a 3D printer to our students! As an academic coach in an elementary school, I have the privilege of working closely with both teachers and students to strengthen instruction, build confidence, and support meaningful academic growth. In Pre-K, books are one of our most powerful teaching tools. Through these new stories, my students are building early literacy skills like recognizing letters and sounds, learning new vocabulary, and understanding how stories work from beginning to end. Many of the books also help us talk about big feelings, friendship, and kindness—important lessons for four- and five-year-olds as they learn how to be part of a classroom community.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. During story time, students make predictions, point out letters they recognize, and talk about what characters might be feeling. These books are also used during small group lessons, where we practice retelling stories, identifying characters, and connecting the stories to our own lives. Because the library now includes books with diverse characters and experiences, my students can see themselves reflected in the stories we read together.\r\n\r\nSeveral students head straight to the library each morning and excitedly choose books to \"read\" to their friends. Even students who were previously hesitant about books are now eager to sit down and explore the pictures, tell their own versions of the story, and share what they notice.
