We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and to allow students the chance to get something in their bellies to start the day is crucial. Although our school offers free breakfast, if students arrive late, there is not always an opportunity to get something. Therefore, having different foods available such as poptarts, granola bars, oatmeal, and crackers is a game changer. \r\n\r\nWe have a pretty significant population of students who are transient, homeless, or just in a tough spot. On many occasions teachers come to my class and just ask for something simple to give to a student that missed dinner the night before as well as breakfast that morning. To see their face light up when they get to chose 2-3 items is beyond rewarding. \r\n\r\nThis has impacted not just the environment in my classroom but throughout the school. Students are coming to school on time but even if circumstances prevent them from arriving on time, they never have to worry about being hungry. Students can even get items for their siblings or family members to ensure there is something to eat. This has made a difference in the empathy shown to others, curbed negative behaviors, and increased student participation and achievement.","fullyFundedDate":1759078523833,"projectUrl":"project/going-the-extra-mile-for-students/9612788/","projectTitle":"Going the Extra Mile for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Waddell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8069254_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1637204125210","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8069254"},{"teacherId":8069254,"projectId":9612338,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our PBIS initiatives. My students went from never receiving points to working extremely hard to earn points each day. Their attendance, behavior, and grades have improved dramatically. Not only have I seen improvement in my class but I've opened the store to others and it has inspired other teachers to do the same. \r\n\r\nThis project has been contagious. Students from\r\naround the school have found my store and look forward to the treats and experiences that are offered. It gives me a great talking point when I meet students from other grade levels especially when they are not having the greatest of days. This has been a great initiative that aligns with the directives of the school and it brings joy to my heart to see students encouraging others to make better choices.","fullyFundedDate":1758854016624,"projectUrl":"project/pbis-incentives/9612338/","projectTitle":"PBIS Incentives","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Waddell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8069254_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1637204125210","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8069254"},{"teacherId":226000,"projectId":4418336,"letterContent":"From the bottom of my heart I thank you for helping us probably more then you will ever know. While many people are used to using technology for convenience at home, in our classroom, it's a powerful learning tool that makes instruction more interactive, personalized, and accessible. With the devices and programs you helped fund, my students are now able to engage in targeted practice tailored to their academic needs—whether it's building foundational reading skills, practicing math fluency, or exploring science through interactive visuals and games. These tools have made it easier to track student progress in real time and adjust instruction to support both struggling learners and those ready for enrichment.\r\n\r\nWhat's been most exciting is watching how the technology draws students in. They are eager to log in, take ownership of their work, and even collaborate with peers. One student who was previously reluctant to participate in lessons now lights up when using a learning app that gives immediate feedback and celebrates growth. Another student with learning differences has greatly benefited from text-to-speech features and visual aids, enabling them to access grade-level content with greater confidence. These small shifts have made a big difference in how my students feel about school—they see themselves as capable learners, and that confidence carries into every subject area.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and helping to create opportunities for our scholars to thrive. Your generosity has brought not just new tools, but renewed energy and hope into our learning environment.","fullyFundedDate":1561917596705,"projectUrl":"project/multiple-modalities/4197720/","projectTitle":"Multiple Modalities","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Footman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3281_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y14&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748483778744","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3281"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59731","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":666,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":72,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.5,"schoolId":59731,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Shoal Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Shoal Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/rockdale-county-public-schools/shoal-creek-elementary-school/59731"}
